Abstract: The videophone system provides videophone service within narrow band digital network. The system is based on pipe-lined processing elements and includes a source codec (25) connected to an image bus (28), with several processing elements (PE). The processing element has a digital signal processor (DSP) module, a local memory module connected to the DSP module, a FIFO memory module connected to the DSP module and local memory module, and an image bus interface module. The communications between the processor elements is performed via the pipeline and common memory connected to a VME bus (21) and the image bus, for storing message data for synchronisation and communication between the processing.
