Abstract:
A hand-tearable masking tape, comprising a plastic backing with a low adhesion backsize on the first major side of the backing and a pressure-sensitive adhesive on the second major side of the backing; wherein the second major side of the backing comprises a microstructured hand-tear pattern and wherein the low adhesion backsize comprises the reaction product of a mercapto-functional silicone macromer.
Abstract:
A masking article includes a bendable backing layer having first and second opposed major surfaces, an adhesive arranged on at least a portion of at least one of the first and second major surfaces, wherein the adhesive has a thickness, and a raised element arranged on the same major surface as the adhesive, wherein the raised element extends beyond the thickness of the adhesive such that the masking article can be moved along an application surface to a desired location without having the adhesive adhere to the application surface, and such that the masking article can be secured to the application surface by pressing the backing layer in the region opposite the adhesive, thereby forcing the adhesive into contact with the application surface to secure the masking article to the application surface at the desired location.
Abstract:
A stretch releasing adhesive tape is disclosed comprising a pull tab comprising a single tab film which is adhered to both adhesive surfaces of the stretch releasing adhesive tape. The pull tab is foldable so as to comprise an unobtrusive visual appearance, and may also be extendable so that the pull tab may be grasped to activate the stretch release.
Abstract:
Presently described are polylactic acid polymer based films comprising a structured surface and articles. In one embodiment, the film comprises a semicrystalline polylactic acid polymer; a second polymer such as polyvinyl acetate polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least 25°C; and plasticizer. Articles are also described such as a tape or sheet, comprising the structured PLA-based film and a layer of (e.g. pressure sensitive) adhesive disposed on the film. In some embodiments, the tape or sheet further comprises a low adhesion backsize or a release liner. The article can be suitable for various end-uses. In one embodiment, the tape is a paint masking tape. In another embodiment, the tape is a floor marking tape.
Abstract:
Polymeric substrates with a first major side including first, high-gloss areas and also including second, low-gloss areas that comprise a molded textured surface, the first and second areas being provided on the first major surface in a predetermined pattern; and wherein the first major side of the substrate further includes at least one physical microstructure that is superimposed on the first, high-gloss areas and on the second, low-gloss areas.
Abstract:
A hand-tearable masking tape with a primary microstructured hand-tear pattern and at least one secondary hand-tear pattern oriented so that the tape exhibits multi-directional tear.
Abstract:
Herein is disclosed a plastic tape, comprising a backing with a first major side comprising a microstructured paint-retention pattern and a second major side that may comprise a microstructured hand-tear pattern and with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer disposed on second major side of the backing; wherein the backing, the microstructured paint-retention pattern, and the microstructured hand-tear pattern (if present) all constitute a monolithic plastic unit.
Abstract:
The present disclosure generally relates to adhesive compositions, adhesive articles including the adhesive compositions, methods of making the adhesive compositions and articles, and methods of using the adhesive compositions and articles. The adhesive compositions of the present disclosure include a thermoplastic phenolic resin made from the reaction of (1) alkyl phenol (e.g., butyl- or octyl- or -nonyl) and formaldehyde; or (2) alkyl phenol (e.g.,butyl- or octyl-) and acetaldehyde; or (3) alkyl phenol (e.g., butyl- or octyl-) and acetylene. The present disclosure also generally relates to adhesive articles including these adhesive compositions. The inventors of the present disclosure found that such adhesive articles exhibit excellent adhesion to architectural coatings with including low or no VOCs, deep base formulations, and/or formulations including primer in various conditions, including, for example, high humidity.
Abstract:
A stretch releasing adhesive tape Keith an improved pull tab is disclosed. Methods are provided by which a single tab film may be adhered to an elongated strip of stretch releasing adhesive tape to form a manually engageable pull tab at a selected location. Such a pull tab may be foldable so as to comprise an unobtrusive visual appearance, and may also be extendable so that the pull tab may be grasped to activate the stretch release.
Abstract:
An article is described such as a tape or sheet, comprising a PLA-based film and a layer of (e.g. pressure sensitive) adhesive disposed on the film. The PLA-based film comprises a semicrystalline polylactic acid polymer; a second polymer, polyvinyl acetate polymer having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of at least 25°C; and plasticizer; wherein said second polymer results in a film that does not exhibit plasticizer migration when aged at 80°C for 24 hours. The tape or sheet may further comprises a low adhesion backsize or a release liner. The article can be suitable for various end-uses. In one embodiment, the tape is a paint masking tape. In another embodiment, the tape is a floor marking tape.
