Abstract: A telecommunications apparatus (10) for use with a plug (34-1) having at least first (308), second (308) and third (310) pins. The telecommunications apparatus (10) includes a plug connector (36-1) for receiving the plug (34-1). The plug connector (36-1) includes at least first (302), second (302) and third (305) electrical contacts for electrically contacting the first (308), second (308) and third (310) pins, respectively, when the plug (34-1) is inserted in the plug connector (36-1). The plug connector (36-1) also includes an electrical bypass pathway (304) that: i) electrically connects the first and second electrical contacts (302) when the plug (34-1) is fully removed from the plug connector (36-1) such that a signal can enter the plug connector (36-1) through the first contact (302), pass through the by-pass pathway (304) to the second contact (302), and exit the plug connector (36-1) through the second contact (302); and ii) does not electrically connect the first and second electrical contacts (302) when the plug (34-1) is fully inserted within the plug connector (36-1) such that a signal can enter the plug connector (36-1) through the first contact (302), pass through the plug to the second contact (302), and exit the plug connector (36-1) through the second contact (302).
