    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a new 2-furylacrylic acid disubstituted anilide compound having high non-linear optical effect, free from absorption in visible range and useful as a non-linear optical material for optical wavelength conversion element, optical switching element, etc. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I [A is group of formula II or formula III; at least one of R and R is halogen and the other may be lower alkyl), e.g. 2-furylacryl-2,3-dichloroanilide. The compound can be produced by reacting a compound of formula IV (X is OH, halogen or group of formula V) with a compound of formula A-NH2. The compound generates high secondary harmonic (green light of 532nm wavelength) by the radiation of e.g. Nd:YAG laser (1064nm wavelength) and exhibits remarkable non-linear optical effect. The compound is a high-melting crystal almost transparent under visible light and the non-linear optical activity is reproducible even after melting. Accordingly, it can be used as fiber and vacuum-deposited membrane as well as single crystal and polymer and is useful as the above optical material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an organic compound having high nonlinear optical effect and having no absorption region in a visible region, consisting of saccharin derivative shown in a specified expression. CONSTITUTION:This organic nonlinear optical material consists of a saccharin derivative. For instance, the saccharin derivative generates intensive secondary higher harmonics (532nm green light) by irradiating in with ND:YAG laser(1064 nm). And the saccharin derivative is a transparent and colorless high melting point crystal at visible region. And it is usable not only at a state of single crystal but also at a state of film, a fiber and a vapor-deposited film, and is usable compound as a nonlinear optical material used of an optical wavelength conversion element, an optical switching element, etc.
