Abstract:
A spray gun for electrostatic painting in which an external electrode sustaining a high voltage can be fixed/removed while sustaining insulation from a spray unit on the ground potential side by limiting current supply to paint appropriately when electrostatic painting is performed using conductive paint, e.g. water based paint, and safety and handling performance are enhanced while ensuring the painting efficiency as the spray gun for electrostatic painting. On the outside of the spray gun (1) having the spray unit (5) at the forward end thereof, the external electrode (7) having an electrode projecting from the forward end part thereof is provided removably at the part (13) of the gun body being connected with the electrode while being separated from the paint passage such that it can be replaced readily. The part being connected with a high voltage output end part through a high resistor for limiting current can be shortened while sustaining safety by providing a turn-up part so that a sufficient creeping discharge preventing distance is ensured up to the exposed part on the outer surface. Furthermore, the electrode body itself is simplified so that it can be replaced with one touch, and it is composed of a flexible resilient material in order to prevent damage.

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provided an electrostatic coating spray gun excellent in operability and employing low voltage system for improving safety and for more miniaturization, the spray gun having been demanded since there are many problems in which an electrically conductive coating material causes a problem when electrified directly, consequently an external electrode system of indirect electrification is generally used however such system brings about a practical problem in handleability and safety when miniaturized. SOLUTION: The electrostatic coating spray gun is constituted in such a way that an atomizer is arranged at the distal end of the spray gun to atomize the coating material discharged from a coating material nozzle arranged in the central part of the atomizer and the atomized coating material is applied to the objected to be coated while applying high-voltage static electricity to particles of the atomized coating material, wherein the potential of coating material side of the spray gun is set to be ground potential, a charging electrode as an external electrode is arranged on the outside surface or inside surface of an air cap and a compressed air flow passage is formed between a coating material jetting spout of the ground potential and the charging electrode. A discharge from the electrode to the coating material side (grounded side) is restrained in charging by compressed air, so that required potential is maintained, ionized discharging is efficiently performed and particles of the coating material are electrified. As a result, since a potential drop is prevented, the voltage necessary for electrifying particles of the coating material can be lowered. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an external electrification electrostatic coating immediately applicable to various atomizers by improving operability of an electrostatic coating spray gun having an external electrification electrode and protecting a worker by assuring safety, to achieve spread of electrostatic coating of water-base paints, and to improve coating efficiency and environment. SOLUTION: The external electrification electrostatic coating comprises electrifying the paint sprayed from the atomizer with an external charge electrode disposed separately from a route for the paint. A high-voltage electrostatic charger including the external electrification electrode and the atomizer are separately manufactured. In electrostatic coating, the charger and the atomizer are mounted on each other and electrostatic coating is performed by activating the charger cooperatively with the operation of the atomizer and by utilizing the external electrification. The charger is integrally provided as an external electrification unit including a high-voltage generator, a high resistance to limit the excess current to the external electrode and the external charge electrode so that the electrostatic coating by the external electrification system can be easily performed by combination with the various atomizers. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve safety and handleability by constituting an external electrode which maintains a high voltage by adequately limiting the electric current to a paint to be supplied in such a manner that the electrode is made attachable and detachable by maintaining the insulation from an atomizer which is a ground potential side in the case of electrostatic coating of the conductive paint. SOLUTION: On the outer side of a spray gun having the atomizer at its tip, an external electrode body which consists of an insulation material over the entire part and has the electrode projected at its tip is freely attachably and detachably provided on a high-voltage output part of the gun body so as to be made easily exchangeable. The attaching and detaching section is set so that a distance at which a juncture with a high-voltage output end through a current-limiting high resistance reaches an outside surface exposure section can be sufficiently taken. The above section can be made to maintain safety and can be made shorter by providing the same with a turning over section. Further, the electrode body itself is simplified and is made exchangeable with a single action of exchange and in addition, the electrode body is configured of a flexible and elastic material for the purpose of failure prevention.
