Abstract: In some embodiments, an electronic device in communication with a display and a touch-sensitive surface displays a user interface, and while displaying the user interface, the electronic device receives touch input comprising a contact detected on the touch-sensitive surface. In some embodiments, in response to receiving the touch input, and in accordance with a determination that the touch input satisfies first criteria, wherein the first criteria include a requirement that the contact continues to be detected in a predefined region of the touch-sensitive surface for longer than a time threshold, the electronic device displays a first indication that further input of a first type detected at the touch sensitive surface will cause the device to display a first system user interface. In some embodiments, in accordance with a determination that the touch input does not satisfy the first criteria, the electronic device forgoes displaying the first indication.

Abstract: The dynamic adjusting of the conditions for identifying inputs as touching a touch sensitive device is discloses. In some examples, in addition to using a signal density make threshold to identify an input patch as touching the surface, a signal density stability threshold can be used to identify the input patch as touching the surface. In some examples, a weighted average of peak signal density contributions from recent identified touches can be computed to dynamically adjust the make threshold for new input patches. In other examples, a new input patch identified as associated with the same path as an earlier touch can have its "make" threshold dynamically adjusted based on the earlier touch without computing a weighted average.

Abstract: This invention aims to overcome the problem of a touch device, such as a tablet computer, being able to detect that the user is touching it even if their hands are covered by, for example gloves or a bandage. It works by first identifying a patch of the screen and then computing the signal density for that patch 500. It then determines if the signal density exceeds a given threshold 505, and if so then determines that the user it touching the device 510. The threshold is also dynamically adjusted based on one or recent contacts. If the signal density is below the threshold, then it may also determine if the signal is stable for a given period of time 515. If it is then it will determine that the user is touching the device.

Reconstruction can include aligning columns of the differential touch image relative to each other and aligning the image to a baseline DC value. The column and baseline alignment can be based on the differential image data indicative of no touch or hover, because such data can more clearly show the amount of alignment needed to reconstruct the original image. The reconstruction can be performed using the differential image data alone. The reconstruction can also be performed using the differential image data and common mode data indicative of the missing image column average.
