    Abstract: 1,125,221. Water-insoluble azo dyes. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 14 Jan., 1966 [15 Jan., 1965; 30 Nov., 1965 (2)], No. 1818/66. Heading C4P. The invention comprises p-aminoazo dyes having the general formula wherein D is a radical of a diazotizable isocyclic or heterocyclic amine; B is a p-phenylene radical which may be substituted; R is an alkyl radical which may be substituted; R 1 and R 2 are C 1 -C 4 alkylene radicals and X is a radical -S-aryl, -SO-aryl, -SO 2 -aryl, -O-aryl or -S-alkyl which may be substituted and the dyes are free from ionic "watersolubilizing groups. Preferred dyes have the general formula wherein D and X are as defined above; R‹ is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical which may be substituted by cyano, alkoxy, carbalkoxy or an acetyl group; Y is hydrogen, a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy group, trifluoromethyl, halogen or a C 1 -C 4 acylamino group; Z is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy group; n is 2 to 4 and n 1 is 1 to 4. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazo compound of an amine DNH 2 with a compound or a compound by conventional methods and when the latter is used the hydroxyl group is acylated with a compound The symbols D, B, R, R 1 , R 2 and X have the meanings given above and W is halogen, alkanoyloxy, alkoxy or hydroxyl group. The acylation step preferably takes place using an acid catalyst and a solvent immiscible with water. The disperse dyes obtained are used to dye acetylcellulose, polyamides and polyesters.
