Abstract: Textile materials are dyed and/or printed by beating them, if necessary at elevated temperature, in the presence of an alkaline reacting agent with at least one azo dye or precursor therefor which contains at least one -NH- group in heterocyclic combination and with at least one uncoloured polyfunctional compound of the formula wherein at least two A's are a X-CH2CH2-CO-group in which X is the radical of a 2 DEG amine attached via N and the third A is H2C=CH-CO-or Z+-O3S-CH2CH2-CO- where Z is a cation and, when an azo dye precursor has been used, forming the finished dye in the conventional way. The process is especially suitable to textile materials of natural and regenerated cellulose but may also be applied to materials of cellulose acetate, acrylonitrile polymers and copolymers, polyesters, polyamides, wool and silk. A number of inorganic and organic alkaline agents are specified. Many suitable azo dyes, diazo and coupling components are specified. Pre-metallised azo dyes of the specified type may also be used or metallisation may be carried out subsequently on the fibre. The polyfunctional compound is preferably of the formula where the radicals R1 to R4 may be ethyl or methyl radicals. The dye, polyfunctional compound and alkali may be applied simultaneously from a dyebath or print paste which may also contain dispersing agents and/or protectuve colloids and/or printing auxiliaries. Fixation may be achieved at 15-30 DEG C. but preferably by steaming or dry heating at 30-200 DEG C. The polyfunctional compound may be used as a solution in a water-miscible solvent, e.g. dimethylformamide (others specified). Examples of dyeing and printing cellulose fabrics are given.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for dyeing or printing textile material such as fibres, filaments, threads, flocks, woven fabrics and knitted fabrics, by the process of Specification 923,162. The present invention however employs azo dyes or the precursors thereof which contain at least one -NH- group in heterocyclic combination, and when precursors are used the azo dye is formed by coupling on the fibre. The invention includes dye liquors and printing pastes which in addition to the azo dyes or precursors thereof contain, alkaline reacting agents and poly-functional compounds containing two or more H2C=CH-CO-groups attached by way of nitrogen or compounds capable of forming such groups under alkaline conditions. Metal complex dyes of the above azo dyes may be used and metalization may take place after printing or dyeing, metals specified are chromium, cobalt and copper. Azo dyes and precursors derived from the following groups are used pyrrole, pyrazole, imidazole, triazole, tetrazole, indole, indazole, benzimidazole, benztriazole, piperazine, imidazoline, benzindole, naphthindole, naphthimidazole, naphthoindazole, aziminonaphthalene, perimidine, carbazole and benzoxazolene. Many diazo compounds and coupling compounds of the above types are specified. Cotton and rayon fabrics are specified.

Abstract: The invention comprises a process and compositions for dyeing and/or optical brightening of textile materials in which the material is treated if necessary at elevated temperatures in the presence of an alkaline reacting agent with a dye and/or optical brightener having one or more reactive hydrogen atoms preferably attached by nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur, or being capable of forming one or more such hydrogen atoms during the process, and with an uncoloured, non-brightening polyfunctional compound which contains at least two radicals of formula-Y-X-CH2-Z, in which Y is -CH2- or -CO-, X is one of -C C-, -CH=CH-or -CH=CCl- and Z is a halogen or quaternary nitrogen atom, or which is capable of forming two or more such radicals during the process. The dyes used may be water soluble or insoluble and reactive dyes are specifically referred to, many chemical groups of dyes are specified. Advantageously strongly alkaline reacting agents are used and also those reagents which yield alkali in the dyeing process. As uncoloured polyfunctional compounds having at least two radicals as above are specified derivatives of hexahydro-1, 3, 5-triacryloyl-s-triazine and dichlorobutin-(2)-ylurea. Fixation of the dye in the material may be at room temperature or by steaming or dry heating, and the reactants may also be applied separately in any order or together. The fibres which may be dyed include cellulose acetate, polyacrylonitrile and its copolymers, linear polyesters, linear polyamides and natural silk and wool. The uncoloured polyfunctional compounds are preferably used in aqueous solution but may also be used in solutions of water miscible solvents. Conventional dyeing, printing and dispersing agents are used. Specifications 831,371 and 867,546 are referred to.
