Abstract: Ferromagnetic chromium dioxide is prepared by converting oxides of trivalent and hexavalent chromium under superatmospheric pressure and at elevated temperatures in the presence of water and with the addition of an antimony compound as a modifier and, if required, further additives in an amount of not more than 15% by weight, by a method in which the antimony compound is present in the form of a water-soluble salt whose anion contains one or more organic molecular moieties which are oxidized in concentrated chromic acid.

Abstract: Production of 4-alkynals by 1,4-addition of terminal alkynes to alpha ,beta -unsaturated aldehydes is effected in presence of a catalyst system comprising a ruthenium catalyst complex and a cyclic tertiary amine co-catalyst which is such that in the case of heteroaromatic nitrogen compounds there are no hydrogen atoms in the a/a> position. Independent claims are also included for (1) preparation of p-cymene-ruthenium halide catalyst complex; (2) preparation of 4-alkyne acids, 2,4-diene acids, 4-alkenals (cis and/or trans) or 2,4- dienals, all from 4-alkynals; and (3) preparation of 2,6-nonadiene nitrile from 4- heptynal.
