    Abstract: Copolyamides are made by mixing (A) o -capryllactam, (B) a salt-forming mixture of (a) a dicarboxylic acid with more than 5 carbon atoms, and (b) a saturated aliphatic diamine with more than 5 carbon atoms, and (C) a saltforming mixture of (a) a dicarboxylic acid with more than 5 carbon atoms and (c) 4,41-diaminodicyclohexyl methane in a ratio of from 95 to 80% by weight of (A) and 5 to 20% by weight of a mixture of components (B) and (C), the weight percentages being based on the total mixture, and subjecting the mixture thus obtained to polymerization. Specified dicarboxylic acids are adipic, pimelic, suberic, azelaic, sebacic, nonane dicarboxylic, heptadecane dicarboxylic, isophthalic, tetrahydrophthalic and hexahydrophthalic acid. Specified diamines are hexamethylene, heptamethylene, octamethylene, decamethylene, tetradecamethylene and nonadecamethylene diamine. The reaction may be effected in the presence of an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, carbon dioxide or helium. In the examples, o -capryllactam and 4,41-diaminodicyclohexyl methane are condensed with: (1) the sebacic acid salt of 1.8-octamethylene diamine and sebacic acid, (2) and (3) the suberic acid salt of 1.8-octamethylene diamine and suberic acid, (4) the adipic acid salt of 1.8-octamethylene diamine and adipic acid and (6) the terephthalic acid salt of 1.8-octamethylene diamine and terephthalic acid.
