    Abstract: Process for dyeing or printing cellulosic textile materials with vat dyes or sulphur dyes by applying the water-insoluble dye to the textile material from an aqueous liquor or as a print paste, reduction to the leuco form in an aqueous alkali medium using iron(II) compounds as reductants and subsequent oxidation to the pigment, by using as the iron(II) compound iron(II) complex salts with hydroxycarboxylic acids as complexing agents which have a molar ratio of iron(II) to complexing agent from 1 : 3 to 1 : 0.5. The wastewaters obtained are advantageously given a biological treatment and can be re-used for dyehouse purposes.

    Abstract: Dyeing or printing comprises reducing dye to the leuco-form prior to oxidn. to pigment redn. is effected in an aq. alkali medium using a redn. agent based on complexes of divalent Fe with aliphatic hydroxy cpd. complexers which also contain in addn. to the OH gp. further OH gps. and/or up to 2 aldehyde, keto or carboxyl gps. but not amino gps. Pref. hydroxy cpd. complexer is a di- or poly-alcohol or a mono-, di- or poly-hydroxy-aldehyde, -ketone or -mono or -dicarboxylic acid, typical disclosed examples including (di)ethylene glycol, glycerin aldehyde, glucose, hydroxyacetone, ascorbic acid and tartaric acid. Prepn. of the Fe(II) complex can be in-situ, esp. for 1 molar Fe(II) salt and 3-15 mols. hydroxy cpd. complexer. ADVANTAGE - Difficulties associated with the use of triethanolamine or citric acid as complexers (i.e. Fe(III) hydroxide deposition and poor results with difficultly reducible dyes such as C.I. Vat Black 25 (C.I. 69 525)) are overcome.

    Abstract: A process for desizing a fabric web comprising the steps of: first wetting the dry size-loaded fabric with the desizing liquor separated from a previous batch of fabric after desizing, so that the fabric, and the size adhering thereto, take up water from the desizing liquor by swelling and/or solvation, thereby increasing the concentration of the desizing liquor; separating the concentrated desizing liquor from the fabric; recycling the concentrated desizing liquor to a sizing operation; desizing the wetted fabric by a continuous fresh water wash; separating the desized fabric from the resulting desizing liquor; and recycling the desizing liquor to the first wetting step.
