The invention concerns condensation products containing N,O-acetal- or carbonamide structures, the products being characterized in that they are obtained by the condensation of (a) compounds containing at least once the structural element (I) or (II) in which X=OH or NHR, R being C1 to C6 alkyl or -CH2-COOH, with (b) aldehydes, ketones or aldehydic or ketonic carboxylic acids to give acetal lactones and by subsequently splitting the acetal lactones with (c) aminocarboxylic acids, primary or secondary amines and/or polyethylenimines to give condensation products containing N,O-acetal- or carbonamide structures. The invention also concerns methods of preparing such products and their use as additives in washing and cleaning agents. The invention further concerns condensation products containing acetal lactone structures produced by reacting (a) hydroxycarboxylic acids or secondary aminoacids with polyhydroxy compounds and condensing with (b) aldehydes, ketones or aldehydic or ketonic carboxylic acids.

The invention concerns polyacetal-block-containing polymers obtained by polymerizing, in the presence of initiators, carboxylic acid esters containing aldehyde groups and by reacting the polymers with at least bifunctional cross-linking agents, in the presence of acids or Lewis acids and optionally hydrolysing the ester groups thus incorporated in the polymer. The invention also concerns a method of producing polymers containing polyacetal blocks by polymerizing carboxylic acid esters containing aldehyde groups in the presence of initiators and reacting the polyacetals containing terminal hydroxy groups thus obtained with at least bifunctional cross-linking agents, in the presence of acids or Lewis acids, plus the use of the polymers thus obtained as additives in phosphate-free and phosphate-reduced washing and cleaning agents, as scale inhibitors and as dispersants for pigments.

Disclosed is the use of glycine-N,N-diacetic acid derivatives and their alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium and substituted ammonium salts as complexing agents for alkaline earth and heavy metal ions, except with α-alanine-N,N-diacetic acid, as textile detergent builders in powdered detergent formulations and as calcium sequestering agents in oral hygiene products.

Hydroxamic acids and hydroxamic acid ethers have formulae (I) and (II), in which Z?1 and Z2¿ stand for the groups -NH-OY, -NR?1?-OY or -OX, at least one of the residues Z?1 or Z2¿ in (I) or the residue Z1 in (II) being -NH-OY or -NR?1-OY; R1¿ stands for C¿1-18?-alkyl; X stands for hydrogen, alkaline metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium; Y stands for hydrogen, alkaline metal, ammonium, substituted ammonium or C1-18-alkyl; and L stands for a C1-100 bridging member which may also bear oxygen- and nitrogen-function groups. Excepted is the N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)-2-aminoacethydroxamic acid. The compounds (I) and (II) are suitable as complexing agents for alkaline earth and heavy metal ions, in particular as builders or bleaching agent stabilizers in washing and cleaning products.

The fatty acid derivatives described are based on epoxidized unsaturated fatty acid esters or triglycerides and are reacted with amines such as hydroxy- and/or amino-substituted hydrophilic amines or amino acids and/or with alkanoles or with water on the epoxy group and/or the carboxylic ester group. These fatty acid amides can be used as surface active agents in washing and cleaning agents.

A process is disclosed for preparing products from the reaction of polyasparaginic acid imides with aminoacids by reacting aminoacids with polyasparaginic acid imides in an aqueous medium at pH values at which at least 5 % of the amino groups of the aminoacids having a non-protonated form are in equilibrium with those having a protonated form. Also disclosed is the use of the thus obtained reaction products and of products from the reaction of polyasparaginic acid imides with alkanolamines or aminated C1-C30-fatty alcohol alkoxilates which contain up to 50 % by moles of polymerized ethylene and/or propylene oxide per mole of fatty alcohol. These products are useful as additives for washing and cleaning agents, as scale inhibitors and as dispersing agents.
