Abstract: The invention relates to copolymers produced by copolymerizing (a) 1 to 10 wt. % of at least one ethylenically unsaturated C 4 -C 10 dicarboxylic acid, (b) 1 to 10 wt. % of at least one ethylenically unsaturated C 3 -C 10 monocarboxilic acid, the sum of (a) and (b) ranging between 3.1 wt. % and 15 wt. %, (c) 65 to 95 wt. % of at least one compound of general formula (I), (d) 0 to 3.5 wt. % of (meth)acrylamide, (e) 0 to 3 wt. % of (meth)acrylonitrile, (f) 0 to 20 wt. % of at least one vinyl aromatic compound of general formula (II), wherein the variables are defined as follows: R 1 , R 2 are identical or different and are selected among hydrogen and C 1 -C 10 alkyl, R 3 is selected among C 1 -C 20 alkyl, R 4 , R 5 , R 6 are identical or different and are selected among hydrogen and C 1 -C 10 alkyl, and k represents an integer ranging from 0 to 3. The inventive copolymers can be entirely or partially neutralized with alkali or ammonium while the percentages in wt. % are in relation to the whole copolymer.
