    Abstract: A cannula assembly adapted to pierce a solid or unslit closure is disclosed and includes a blunt cannula and a piercing member held in cooperation with or contained within the flow channel of the cannula. Generally, the piercing member includes a tip capable of piercing an unslit stopper or closure and a means to temporarily retain the piercing member from the cannula and prevent inadvertent disengagement of the piercing member from the blunt cannula.

    Abstract: A protector shield is provided for a needle to protect from injury to the hand and touch contamination of the needle. The protector shield comprises an arcuate wall, longitudinally positionable about the pointed end of a tubular needle in spaced relation to it. The arcuate wall defines an open side, and an arcuate arm extends from the arcuate wall across a portion of the open side. The arm extends generally circumferentially about the needle so that the protector shield may be used to lock the needle into engagement with a Y-type injection site.

    Abstract: One conventional method for manufacturing bags of sterile solution includes filling bags in a clean environment, sealing the filled bag, and then sterilizing the fluid and bags in a sterilizing autoclave (”terminal sterilization”). Another conventional method is to sterile filter a solution and to fill and seal sterile bags in an extremely high-quality environment which prevents contamination of the solution during the filling process and to seal the filled bag (”aseptic filling”). Such conventional methods require expensive equipment, stringent procedures and extensive monitoring. The present invention provides a small scale solution manufacturing machine and method for filling product bags with sterile solution in which each filled and sealed bag undergoes individual testing to ensure it meets regulatory and stile standards. The method includes performing an integrity test on the filter and correlating an integrity of the contents of a filled fluid bag to an integrity of filter based on the outcome of the integrity test.

The system comprises an intravenous pump tubing set (40), a pump actuator (20) operable with the intravenous pump tubing set, means for removing air, and an air detector (72) configured to sense air in the intravenous pump tubing set.     Abstract: An intravenous ("IV") liquid delivery system includes: an IV pump tubing set; a shuttle pump or membrane pump actuator operable with the IV pump tubing set; upstream and downstream valve actuators operable with the IV pump tubing set; the IV pump tubing set including an air removal device; an air detector configured to sense air in the IV pump tubing set; a control unit configured and arranged to (i) open the upstream valve actuator and close the downstream valve actuator to allow the pump actuator to draw liquid into a pump actuation portion of the IV pump tubing set, and (ii) close the upstream valve actuator and open the downstream valve actuator to allow the pump actuator to push liquid out of the pump actuation portion, the system configured to attempt to remove the air via the air removal device while operating the upstream and downstream valve actuators according to (i) and (ii).
