Abstract: 1285266 2,4 - Diketo - -1,3 - dimethyl - -1,2,3,4- tetrahydropyrimidin - 6 - yl - thiopseudoureas BAXTER LABORATORIES Inc 29 July 1970 [13 Aug 1969] 36605/70 Heading C2C Novel 2,4 - diketo - 1,3 - dimethyl - 1,2,3,4- tetrahydropyrimidin - 6 - yl - thiopseudoureas of the general formula wherein R and R 1 are each a C 1-3 alkyl, allyl or methallyl group, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reaction of a thiourea of the general formula with a halide of the general formula R 1 X, wherein X is Cl, Br or I, and optionally converting the resulting hydrohalide to the corresponding free base or another acid addition salt thereof. Pharmaceutical compositions having central nervous system anti-depressant activity comprise, as active ingredient, a 2,4-diketo-1,3- dimethyl - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydro - pyrimidin - 6- yl-thiopseudourea of the first general formula above or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, together with a diluent or carrier, and may be administered orally, intravenously or intraperitoneally.
