Preferably about 1À5 to 2À0 moles of CHF 2 Cl and 5 moles of NaOH or KOH are used per mole of the alcohol at temperatures from 5‹ to 25‹ C. and the reaction is effected in a mutual solvent, such as diethylene glycol dimethyl ether.

Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Inhalation anaesthetic compositions comprise the compound in admixture with oxygen in suitable proportions for the production of anaesthetic and capable of supporting respiration. Other materials which may be present in the compositions are stabilisers, e.g. thymol, and known inhalation anaesthetics, e.g. nitrous oxide, ether, chloroiforim, halothane, cyclopropane and imethoxyflurane. The oxygen may be provided in the form of oxygen itself, air, or other gaseous mixtures containing oxygen.
