    Abstract: An ink ribbon cassette has a case housing an ink ribbon 2 inside. Holes 8, 9 for receiving positioning members are formed at the two ends of a front portion of the case, and an engaging member 12 is formed at the centre of a rear portion of the case. One of the positioning members may also serve as an ink ribbon end detector. A printing apparatus for printing using such an ink ribbon cassette has a carriage, projections and a spring, in which the ink ribbon will not be slackened in the printing mode.

    Abstract: The cassette for a printer accommodates the ribbon (2) on two spools (3.4). The ribbon passes over a series of guide members, and at one point leaves the cassette to pass over th the printing head (6). There is a cutout in the wall of the cassette at this point. There are two holes (8,9) in the cassette wall, into which projections on the printer fit, to hold the cassette firmly in place. The two spools for the ribbon are held on spindles which allow them to turn freely. There are projections (12) in the edge of the cassette remote from the printer mechanism to assist in holding the cassette firmly in place.

    Abstract: A thermal printer adapted for multicolor printing is provided with a thermal head which is driven according to information of color of character or image to be printed. The color information is previously stored in a memory. The multicolor ribbon used in the printer is composed of different color inks having different melting points coated in layers on a base film. In driving the thermal head, the amount of thermal energy generated from it is changed by changing the applied voltage to it and/or the driving time of it to perform multicolor printing with the multicolor ink ribbon.
