Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is promoted in narrowing a frame and is also excellent in reliability. SOLUTION: A segment substrate 21 and a common substrate 22 are stuck together via a sealing material 23 of an almost square frame form, and a liquid crystal is enclosed in the inside. In the inner surface of the segment substrate 21, common terminals 28 and almost L-formed terminal side common wiring 30 connected with the common terminals 28 are formed of a low resistance metal such as Al. In this case, the wiring width can be made relatively narrow while maintaining the resistance of the terminal side common wiring 30 small. As a result, the routed area can be reduced. Moreover, being located inside (in the area enclosing the liquid crystal) of the sealing material 23, the terminal side common wiring 30 is resistant to corrosion. Moreover, electrode side common wiring 31 which is connected with common electrodes 26a, 26b made of ITO arranged in the inner surface of the common substrate 22 and is also made of ITO is conductively connected with the terminal side common wiring 30 via a conductive material 32 mixed in the sealing material 23.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute the correction of a defective pixel with good accuracy and to improve a display grade by controlling the range of the air bubbles and splashing components generated by irradiation with a laser beam. SOLUTION: The pressure in a vacuum suction head 15 is reduced to bulge a transparent substrate 17 of the part corresponding to the defective pixel of a liquid crystal panel 10 toward the inside of a suction hole 16, by which the gap G between the transparent substrates 17 of the part corresponding to the defective pixel of the liquid crystal panel 10 is made larger than its peripheral part. When the part of the defective pixel within the bulged and deformed region is irradiated with the laser beam in this state, the air bubble 20 is generated in a liquid crystal layer 18. This air bubble 20 spreads nearly to a circular shape around the part where the gap G between the transparent substrates 17 is largest within the region where the gap G between the transparent substrates 17 is larger than the peripheral parts thereof. The size of the air bubble 20 and the range where the components 22 splash is limited and the execution of the correction of the defective pixel with the good accuracy is made possible and the display grade is improved.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the same liquid crystal to be injected at the time of producing liquid crystal cells of different rotatory polarizations and simplify processes by coating a rotatory polarizing agent on the oriented surface of at least one substrate of two sheets of electrode substrates then joining two sheets of the substrates and filling the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:At the time of making a liquid crystal cell in which a nematic liquid crystal of positive dielectric anisotropy is twist-oriented 90 deg. counterclockwise or clockwise, a sealing material 2 is screen-printed on the circumferential edge part of the oriented surface of at least one substrate 1a and a liquid crystal injection port 3 is left. Next, a rotatory polarizing agent 4 is coated by a coating method, a spraying method or the like and is dried, after which the another substrate 1b is joined thereto. Thence, a liquid crystal 6 is injected through the port 3, and the port is sealed by a sealing material 7. The agent 4 dissolves in the liquid crystal 6 and has predetermined rotatory polarization. Thus, even in the case of assembling multiple liquid crystals having the liquid crystal filled parts 5 of different rotatory polarizations, just one time of injection is required by using the same liquid crystal and the processes are simplified.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To decrease the number of steps of liquid filling process and decrease cost by performing the coating of a rotatory polarizing agent only on the predetermined electrode substrate and adhering and superposing the respective electrode substrates then injecting liquid cyrstals in all the liquid crystal filling parts. CONSTITUTION:Horizontal orientation treatment is applied on the respective electrode forming surfaces of 3 sheets of upper, middle and lower electrode substrates 1, 2, 3, after which first a rotatory polarizing agent 6b of, for example, right rotatory polarization is coated on the oriented surface of the substrate 3, after which the substrate 2 and substrate 1 are superposed by way of sealing materials 4, whereby a cell vase having two layers of liquid crystal filling parts A, B is assembled. After this, P type nematic liquid crystals 5 having beforehand been added with a rotatory polarizing agent 6a of the rotatory polarization opposite from that of the agent having been previously coated on the substrate 3, that is, left rotatory polarization, are injected simultaneously through inlet ports 7, and this results in that the rotatory polarization of the liquid crystals 5 filled in the part B is twist-oriented rightwards because the agent 6a is negated by the agent 6b.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange spacers only in the non-pixel regions within a display region and to prevent the spacers from being arranged in pixel regions. SOLUTION: Minus potential is impressed on a black mask 5 having apertures 7 (corresponding to the pixel regions) at prescribed points and plus potential is impressed on a common electrode 9 having apertures 12 (corresponding to the non-pixel regions) and apertures 11 (corresponding to sealing material forming regions) at prescribed points. The spacers 25 to which a plus charge is imparted are sprayed in this state on a common substrate 1. The spacers 25 are then sprayed only in the non-pixel regions and the sealing material forming region by electrical attraction force and electrical repulsive force. In such a case, the spacers 25 are coated with adhesive 24 and are, therefore, adhered to the sprayed positions. The sealing materials are formed only by the spacers 25 coated with the adhesives 24 sprayed to the sealing material forming regions.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the amts. of the spacers dislodging from the top of a substrate and to enhance the use efficiency of the spacers by electrifying the electrodes on the surface of the substrate to the polarity reverse from the polarity of the spacers, then spraying the spacers onto the substrate. SOLUTION: The substrate 22 for a liquid crystal display element is arranged horizontally on a transporting mechanism 8 by directing the surface formed with counter electrodes upward. The charges reverse from the polarity electrified to the spacers 25 are impressed on the counter electrodes of the substrate 22 by the discharge generated by a discharger 9 during the transportation of the substrate 22, by which the counter electrodes are electrified. The substrate 22 is transported through a carrying-in port 4 into a spraying chamber 1 and is fixed onto a stage 10. The spacers 25 housed in a housing box 3 are sprayed in the prescribed amt. toward the substrate 22 by gravity falling through a spraying nozzle 2. The attraction effect based on the electrification is generated between the sprayed spacers 25 and the substrate 22 and the falling spacers 25 are stably adhered onto the substrate 22 by the attraction effect.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To highly accurately measure the layer thickness of a liquid crystal (LC) layer in the sealing state of LC in an LC cell by finding out the LC layer thickness based upon the wavelength dependency of the intensity of transmitted light through the LC cell. CONSTITUTION:Light A whose wavelength is to be changed from a long wave length to a short wavelength is made incident upon the LC cell 11 through a polarizing plate 16 and transmitted light through the cell 11 is detected by a photodetector S through a polarizing plate 17 whose polarizing axis is parallel with the plate 16 to measure the intensity of the transmitted light. When it is defined that the wavelength minimizing the intensity of the transmitted light at first is lambda1, the twist angle of the LC 15 is phi and the refractive index anisotropy of the LC 15 is DELTAn, the thickness (d) of the LC layer can be found by the shown equation.
