Abstract:
A scroll wheel assembly for computer input device having a housing. The scroll wheel assembly includes a housing and an engagable scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is rotatable with a shaft to preferably cause vertical scrolling of an image on a display. The scroll wheel is laterally tiltable relative to the housing and the shaft. A sensor is preferably positioned within the housing for sensing tilting of the rotatable member. In response to sensed tilting movement of the rotatable member, the image is horizontally scrolled, preferably in the direction of the lateral movement. The computer input device having the rotatable member may take the form of a keyboard, a mouse, a trackball device, or another type of computer input device.
Abstract:
In embodiments of selective illumination, an illumination system includes light sources implemented for selective illumination of a target within a field of view of an imaging system. The illumination system also includes optics that can be positioned to direct light that is generated by a subset of the light sources to illuminate a region within the field of view. An imaging application can activate the subset of the light sources and position the optics to illuminate the region within the field of view that includes the target of the selective illumination.
Abstract:
Embodiments are disclosed herein that are related to computer mice configured to track motion on smooth surfaces. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides an optical mouse comprising a light source configured to illuminate a tracking surface, an image sensor, and an array of lenses configured to superimpose a plurality of images of spatially different areas of the tracking surface onto the image sensor. The optical mouse further comprises a controller configured to receive a plurality of time-sequenced frames of image data from the image sensor, to detect motion of the mouse on the tracking surface from movement of one or more tracking features in the plurality of time-sequenced frames of image data, and to output a motion signal.
Abstract:
In embodiments of wearable display device calibration, a first display lens system forms an image of an environment viewed through the first display lens system. A second display lens system also forms the image of the environment viewed through the second display lens system. The first display lens system emits a first reference beam and the second display lens system emits a second reference beam. The first display lens system then captures a reflection image of the first and second reference beams. The second display lens system also captures a reflection image of the first and second reference beams. An imaging application is implemented to compare the reflection images to determine a misalignment between the first and second display lens systems, and then apply an alignment adjustment to align the image of the environment formed by each of the first and second display lens systems.
Abstract:
In embodiments of reflective array waveguide, a reflective array waveguide includes clear waveguide panels for see-through viewing of an environment viewed through the reflective array waveguide. The reflective array waveguide also includes reflecting waveguide panels to reflect a virtual image that is generated to appear as part of the environment. Each of the reflecting waveguide panels have a partially reflective mirror coating deposited on opposing sides, and the reflecting waveguide panels are alternated in the reflective array waveguide with the clear waveguide panels. The alternating clear and reflecting waveguide panels are angled for augmented reality imaging of the reflected virtual image as part of the environment that is viewed through the reflective array waveguide.
Abstract:
In embodiments of a flexible display flexure assembly, a flexure assembly includes a structure of pivotable links that couples first and second housing parts of a foldable electronic device. The first housing part of the foldable electronic device includes a flexible display, and the first housing part is integrated with a first section of the flexible display. The second housing part of the foldable electronic device is integrated with a second section of the flexible display. The pivotable links are implemented to collapse relative to each other to form a bend radius of the flexible display and support the flexible display in a closed position of the foldable electronic device. The structure of the pivotable links is also implemented to support the flexible display in an open position of the foldable electronic device.
Abstract:
In embodiments of a transparent display backlight assembly, a backlight panel is operable as a transparent panel, and a light source generates light that the backlight panel directs from the light source to illuminate a display panel of a display device. Light refraction features refract and scatter the light, where the light refraction features are spaced for approximate transparency of the backlight panel and to illuminate the display panel. An active diffuser can be implemented as an additional transparent panel and operable for activation to diffuse the light from the backlight panel that illuminates the display panel.
Abstract:
In embodiments of a transparent display active backlight, a light guide is operable as a transparent panel, and a light source generates light that the light guide reflects within the light guide. An electrowetted panel of the active backlight has electrowetted cells that are each operable to direct the reflected light from the light guide to illuminate a display panel of a display device. Each of the electrowetted cells are further operable for transparency when activated, and each of the electrowetted cells can be individually controlled.
Abstract:
In embodiments of transparent display active panels, a display device includes a lighting system that directs light from a light source to illuminate a display panel. A multi-mode panel is operable as a transparent panel of the display device, and is further operable for activation to absorb or reflect a portion of the light from the light source. An active diffuser is operable as an additional transparent panel of the display device, and is further operable for activation to diffuse the light that illuminates the display panel. The display device also includes a display controller that controls the activation of the multi-mode panel and the active diffuser.
Abstract:
In embodiments, an encoded micro pattern includes segments of encoded bits that can be optically-imaged by a digitizer. The position of each segment in the encoded micro pattern can be determined from the encoded bits in a segment. Each of the segments of the encoded micro pattern also includes a fiducial marker that indicates an orientation of a segment in the encoded pattern. The encoded bits of the encoded micro pattern can be integrated into a display surface of a display device, or integrated in a display screen that is positioned over the display surface of a display device.
