Abstract: Consumable or dissolvable tablets are manufactured by: supplying a liquid containing a biodissolvable carrier to an outlet (41); establishing an electric field between the outlet (41) and a support surface (6) to cause liquid issuing from the outlet to form at least one fibre or fibrils of the biodissolvable carrier which fibre or fibrils deposit(s) onto the surface to form a fibre web or mat; separating the web or mat into a plurality of individual tablets; and incorporating at least one active ingredient on or in the tablets.

Abstract: A liquid is supplied from a reservoir 30 to a nozzle 40 where the liquid is subjected to an electric field from electrode 41 to produce charged droplets. A discharge electrode 50 produces ions to at least partially discharge the droplets. A further electrode 60, placed outwards of the electrode 50 attracts ions produced by the electrode 50 away from nozzle 40 until sufficient space charge is built up to divert the ions towards the charged droplets to enable the ions to discharge the droplets. The droplets may be droplets of medication being dispensed in an inhaler.

Abstract: Liquid to be dispensed passes down pipe 32 to comminution site 40 where it is atomised by use of an electric field supplied to the electrode 41. A discharge electrode 50 provides oppositely-charged ions from the atmosphere to neutralise at least some of the charged droplets. A further electrode 60 attracts ions produced by the electrode 50 away from the site 40 until a sufficient space charge is built up to attract them to the droplets. In other embodiments, means are described for pumping doses of the fluid from reservoir 30, and also means for controlling movement of the electrode 41 so that it acts as a valve for the exit 33a.
