Abstract:
A method and apparatus for caching mobile station (110) location information comprising a gateway packet switch node (150) for receiving and transmitting data packets between a plurality of visiting packet switch nodes (130) and at least one communication network (175) and a cache memory (165) located within the gateway packet switch (150) for caching location information received with a data packet from a transmitting mobile station (110). A communication packet, containing information pertaining to the location of a transmitting mobile station (110) is received (230) by the gateway packet switch node (150). The location information is extracted (250) from the received communication packet and cached (260). When an incoming data packet is received (300) by the gateway packet switch node (150), a determination is made (310) as to whether the location information for the destination mobile station (110) is stored within the cache (165). If the location information is stored within the cache (165) the location information is retrieved (340) from the cache (165) and the data packet is routed (350) to the mobile station (110). Otherwise, the location information is retrieved (320) from a home location register (197) and the data packet is routed (330) to the mobile station (110).

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method, a communication system and a Node-B (NB) in a communication system for distribution of downlink E-DCH power usage in a communication system. The system comprises at least one Node-B (NB) for enabling wireless communication with at least one user terminal (UE). The communication is enabled via an enhanced dedicated transport channel (E-DCH) and one high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) for uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) data traffic between the user terminal (UE) and the Node-B (NB). The Node-B (NB) comprises a HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) for scheduling the data rate for the DL data traffic via the HS-DSCH. It further comprises an EUL scheduler (EUL-S) for scheduling the maximum data rate for the UL data traffic via the E-DCH. The method is particularly characterized in that the Node-B (NB) estimates 111 the power consumption and/or the corresponding transmission time for at least one forthcoming E-DCH DL transmission on at least one E-DCH physical channel. The Node-B (NB) sends 112 the estimated power consumption and/or the corresponding transmission time information to the HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) prior to the E-DCH DL transmission.
Abstract:
System (PAA-BSS) comprising a plurality of access points (AP), defining a pre authentication area (PAA), the system communicating a list of frequencies relating to the access points of the pre-authentication area (PAA) and information as to the relative position of the access points to the a mobile station seeking pre-authentication before the system. Method of preparing a mobile station for handover between access points, wherein the mobile station associating (11, 21, 31) with a first access point in a predetermined group of access points (PAA-BSS) defining a pre-authentication area (PAA), the mobile station authenticating (12, 22, 32) itself before at least one prevalent access point of the group (PAA-BSS), upon being accepted for authentication before the prevalent, the mobile station receiving a response comprising a list of frequencies (14, 24, 34) pertaining to access points of the group (PAA-BSS).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and system for quickly deallocating packet traffic channels. According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the capability of performing point-to-multipoint communications is provided on the PTCH by defining a multicast address that all mobiles read. Through the use of a multicast address, a plurality of mobile stations can simultaneously be notified of the termination of PTCH services. As a result, the network can reallocate PTCH resources in a minimum amount of time.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Method of communicating frames of digital data by OFDM modulated signals comprising a first plurality of payload carrying sub-channels and a second plurality of pilot carrying sub-channels, whereby consecutive frames of payload data is are associated with a given pilot configuration and transmitted. Prior to the transmission of a frame of payload data, each of the plurality of pilot configurations are evaluated with regard to PAPR, whereby the pilot configuration being associated with the lowest PAPR value is being chosen for transmission.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and system for reducing the delay of the transmission of packet data including storing, by a base station, data associated with a mobile station from a first packet data transaction. A packet for starting a second packet data transaction is received from a mobile station and the base station determines whether or not the packet has been correctly received. The base station correlates at least one field in the packet with the stored data. If the base station is able to identify the mobile station based on the correlation with the stored data, then the base station reserves a resource for transmission of a subsequent packet from the mobile station regardless of whether or not the packet has been correctly received.
