Abstract:
A sensor device (10) and a method for measuring a viscosity of a sample of a liquid. The sensor features a chamber (12) for receiving the sample of the liquid, two electrodes (18) disposed either on the surfaces of the chamber, but possibly isolated from contacting the sample, or electrodes located externally to the chamber, and a capacitance measuring circuit (25). The sensor is used by connecting to a measurer for determining a capacitance on the electrodes, such that the capacitance directly reflects a volume occupied by the sample of the liquid. Preferably, the liquid is blood and the capacitance is used to determine the clotting time of the blood. Also preferably, a cover for the chamber is provided with at least one aperture, which more preferably is a mesh. Alternatively, an electrical property such as the amplitude of current passed through the sample is used to determine clotting time. Also preferably, the time period required for the maximum capacitance to be reached could be measured. Alternatively, the capacitance could be measured after a fixed time period (34) had elapsed. Also alternatively, the time period required for the maximum current to be reached could be measured, or the amount of current could be measured after a fixed time period had elapsed. In preferred embodiments of the present invention, a kit for measuring the clotting time of blood is provided. In other preferred embodiments of the present invention, methods are provided for using the kit and device of the present invention.
Abstract:
A sheet for separating and retaining biological molecules. The sheet is activated with a compound for covalently binding a ligand to said sheet, and then coated with ligands having an affinity for the substance of interest. A method of using the sheet for isolating and separating substances of interest and methods for forming the sheet.
Abstract:
A volumetric micropipette for sampling and dispensing a precise quantity of liquid comprising an elongated hollow tubular body configured to draw liquid by capillary action: a reservoir connected proximate the upper end of the tubular body and a deformable hollow bulb connected to the reservoir and having an opening in a wall thereof to allow liquid to be drawn into the tubular body by capillary action. The reservoir is laterally offset with respect to the tubular body and has at least a portion thereof below the upper end of the tubular body.
Abstract:
A method is provided for determining the level of an analyte in the blood of an individual by measuring the level of the analyte in an interstitial fluid or in any other non blood fluid which does not contain red blood cells and adjusting the measurement value by the concentration of at least one reference analyte.
Abstract:
A method for the detection and/or visualization of particle agglutination, comprising: placing a volume of a suspension of the particles on a filter, the filter being constructed so as to permit passage of individual particles; placing a volume of a solution or suspension containing an agglutinating agent at the location of the particle suspension; optionally placing a wash solution at the location of the agglutinating agent; and observing the surface at the location for the presence of particles, such presence indicating that agglutination of the particles occurred. There is also provided a method for detection of agglutination reactions in general and hemagglutination reactions, such as used in blood grouping and cross-matching, in particular. The method is comprised of successive vertical additions of whole blood, blood grouping reagent and wash to a filter. In case of hemagglutination a colored, preferably red or reddish dot becomes visible after washing. A device and a kit based on the invention is also claimed and facilitates blood grouping and matching in non-laboratory environment without the need for laboratory instruments.

Abstract:
A solid phase immuno-assay system for assaying at least one analyte, in the form of a solid support having a plurality of receptors bound thereto. At least two of the receptors conjugate with the same analyte.A reaction container comprising a plurality of longitudinally arranged individual compartments, and a longitudinally extending single compartment.A card for assaying a plurality of samples for the same analyte, having a plurality of receptors for the analyte at different locations on the card.A method of performing an assay for the same analyte in more than one sample, by providing a receptor for the analyte at more than a single location on a solid substrate; exposing each of the receptors to different samples; and developing each of the receptor locations to indicate the presence of the analyte in each of the samples.
