Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the sufficient electron emitting ability of a positive electrode or a negative electrode, and to improve the stability of output of the pulse light to be radiated outside at the time of discharge by coating a surface of an electrode base material with a diamond thin film, a diamond-like carbon thin film or a carbon thin film. SOLUTION: A negative electrode 11 has a cylindrical part 22b at a tip of a narrow bar-like supporting part 22a thereof, and furthermore, a tip of the cylindrical part 22b is provided with a conical part 22c so as to efficiently discharge electron. The supporting part 22a, the cylindrical part 22b and the conical part 22c form an electrode base material 22, and this electrode base material 22 is formed of an electrode base material made of tungsten, for example, having the fine structure. The conical part 22c of the electrode base material 22 is coated with a diamond thin film at 0.1-10μm of thickness. With this structure, a difference of optical intensity between the pulse light, which are radiated out of a discharge tube at the time of discharge in order of lapse of time, is reduced, and stability of optical output is improved.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the ultraviolet-ray detecting pipe having the stable ultraviolet detecting sensitivity. SOLUTION: In an ultraviolet-ray detecting pipe 1, an anode 6 and a cathode 8 made of metal are arranged in close proximity in a sealed container 2, wherein discharging gas is sealed. Discharging is generated between the anode 6 and the cathode 8 by the ultraviolet rays inputted into the sealed container in the ultraviolet-ray detecting pipe 1. In this pipe 1, an electric insulating spacer 10 is arranged between the cathode 8 and the anode 6. The interval of a discharging gap C between the cathode 8 and the anode 6 is specified by the spacer 10. The stable discharging is formed between the electrodes 6 and 8. The input of the ultraviolet rays is sensed by observing the current caused by the discharging. Even when shock and vibration are applied on the detecting pipe from the outside, the cathode 8 and the anode 6 are not brought into contact, and the defective operation does not occur.
