Abstract: Polyethylene terephthalate having a viscosity of 40 poises and obtained in a mass flow of 100 kg./h. at 275 DEG C. is further condensed in a horizontal drum having annular damming elements dividing it into five sections, and rotating distributing blades and scrapers to distribute the polymer on, and remove it from, the heated walls of the drum (see Division B1). The working pressure in the casing was 0.5 mm. Hg, the final product was drawn off at 280 DEG C. after remaining in the reactor for 180 minutes and had a viscosity of 10,000 poises.
