Abstract: The invention relates to a sinterable, finely divided moulding composition which essentially comprises at least one vinyl chloride polymer and at least one compound of the formula in an amount which corresponds to from 10 to 500 parts by weight of silicon atoms per 1000000 parts by weight of the moulding composition. In said formula, R , R , R and R are identical or different and each is an alkyl radical having 1 to 18 carbon atoms or a phenyl radical which is optionally substituted by Cl atoms, and m + n is a number from 50 to 2000, where m may be 0. The moulding composition enables an improved preparation of sintered mouldings, in particular separator plates for electrical cells.

Abstract: The sinterable polyvinyl chloride molding composition described is composed of 99.8 to 97% by weight, relative to the molding composition, of a suspension graft copolymer which is, in turn, composed of 99.7 to 85% by weight of polymerized vinyl chloride units, 0.9 to 10.5% by weight of polymerized ethylene units and 0.09 to 10.5% by weight of polymerized vinyl acetate units, with the proviso that the total of the polymerized ethylene and vinyl acetate units is 0.3 to 15% by weight, relative to the graft copolymer, and also 0.01 to 0.5% by weight, relative to the molding composition, of at least one free alkylarylsulfonic acid having 3 to 16 C atoms in the alkyl chain or at least one alkylsulfonic acid having 8 to 16 C atoms, and also 0.005 to 0.5% by weight, relative to the molding composition, of at least one water-soluble wetting agent which is free from metal ions and contains 12 to about 80 C atoms and a quaternary N atom which forms a salt with a carboxylic or sulfonic acid group. The molding composition gives sintered moldings, particularly separator plates for electrical cells, which have advantageous properties.

Abstract: A compsn. contains 15-35 wt.% of a plasticiser, 0.05-15 wt.% of a wetting agent and 100% of a finely divided, porous suspension and/or bulk polyvinyl chloride, and opt. other additives. Also claimed are the prepn. of sintered articles from the compsn. and separator plates for electric cells made from the compsn. The compsn. contains 18-30 wt.% of plasticiser and 0.05-8 wt.% of wetting agent. Mixing of the compsn. is at 60-130 deg.C, followed by sintering at 160-250, pref. 170-230 deg.C. ADVANTAGE - Allows the prepn. of highly flexible articles such as separator plates from vinyl chloride homopolymers having high plasticiser content, without needing the use of (graft) copolymers or polymer mixts. as in the prior art. In an example, finely divided S-PVC was mixed with 15 wt.% of dioctyl phthalate plasticiser, 0.5 wt.% N-cocosalkyl-N,N-dimethylbetaine and 5 wt.% of polypropylene glycol 400 at 75 deg.C rising to 110 deg.C and sieved through a 125 micron sieve. A separator plate was prepd. by sintering the mixture on a steel band at 175 deg.C for 2-2.3 mins.
