    Abstract: 1393957 Preparing pigments HOECHST AG 7 July 1972 [10 July 1971] 31944/72 Heading C4P Pigments containing the benzothioxanthene nucleus are prepared by reacting a compound containing the 1-(2 1 -aminophenylmercapto)-naphthalene nucleus or the 1-phenylmercapto-8- aminonaphthalene nucleus in a tertiary amine with a compound yielding nitrosyl groups and heating the diazonium compound formed. Compounds yielding nitrosyl groups are nitrososulphuric acid and nitrosyl chloride and the tertiary amines used include pyridine, picoline, quinoline, isoquinoline or mixtures thereof. The starting compounds include 3-(2 1 -amino-phenylmercapto) - benzanthrone and 4 - (2 - aminophenylmercapto)-naphthalic acid anhydride.

    Abstract: A new and very advantageous Process had been found for the preparation of azo dyestuffs by diazotation and coupling in which the synthesis is carried out without the hitherto usual addition of an acid, with the proviso that at least one of the diazo and coupling components contains at least one acid group. Besides the saving of reaction material and subsequently of alkali for neutralization of the reaction medium and isolation of the dyestuff, highly concentrated solutions of the dyestuff and salt-free or practically salt-free dyestuffs can be obtained, and waste-water is no longer charged with big amounts of salts.
