Abstract: A holographic recording medium is treated to eliminate side lobes. The method involves exposing opposed surfaces of the medium with filtered incoherent light either before or after a holographic exposure with coherent light. The incoherent exposure produces controlled desensitization of the medium, resulting in a sensitivity profile which increases continuously to a maximum near the center of the layer. A hologram recorded in the layer has a refractive index modulation which is high in the center of the layer and which decreases toward the surfaces of the layer.

Abstract: Un support d'enregistrement holographique est traité pour éliminer les lobes latéraux. Le procédé consiste à exposer les surfaces opposées du support à une lumière incohérente filtrée soit avant soit après une exposition holographique avec une lumière cohérente. L'exposition à la lumière incohérente produit une désensibilisation contrôlée du support, se traduisant par une courbe de sensibilité augmetant de manière continue jusqu'à un maximum à proximité du centre de la couche. Un hologramme enregistré dans la couche présente une modulation de l'indice de réfraction qui est élevée au centre de la couche et qui va en décroissant en direction des surfaces de la couche.
