Abstract: An integrated microfile includes a rotatably supported magnetic disk for storing data and a micromotor for rotating the disk. The micromotor includes a rotor fixedly joined to the disk and having a plurality of rotor poles. A stator includes a plurality of stator poles positioned around the rotor for sequentially cooperating with respective ones of the rotor poles for rotating the rotor to rotate the disk. A selectively movable access head is disposed adjacent to the disk for selectively addressing the data on the disk. The microfile may be fabricated using lithographic and electroplating techniques in subform-factor sizes in an exemplary embodiment.

Abstract: 1. The method of generating a time pattern on a memory medium in a recording device. Characterized in that: The first set of passages in the first radial position is recorded on the memory medium. A time interval is determined between selected pairs of the first set of passages. The value of deviation between each indicated time interval and the predefined nominal interval is determined, so that each selected pair of the first set of passages has a corresponding deviation value. The second set of passages in the second radial position is recorded on the memory medium. Each passage of the set is recorded with the corresponding time delay with respect to the proceeding passage of the first set of passages. The time delay is determined with the nominal time interval and the function of the corresponding deviation value, so that the propagation of random errors related to the recording of the first set of passages decreases during the recording of the second set of passages. The random errors related to the correlation of the second set of passages to the corresponding passages of the first set are also reduced.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring dynamic head and track misregistration in, for example, a magnetic disk file. A reference signal waveform is recorded onto a track on a recording medium. The track has a center line and an off-center line parallel to the center line. The recorded reference signal waveform is read a plurality of times with the transducer centered approximately above the off-center line of the track to produce a plurality of off-track playback signal waveforms. Abstract: A disk drive storage system comprises an array of disk drive units (230). The disk drives (160) contained in the units have a diameter of 65mm and rotate at 10,000 RPM which has the effect of reducing latency. In a preferred embodiment data and corresponding parity information are converted into portions and stored on a respective different one of the disk drive units. Data stored on a filed disk drive unit can be regenerated on a replacement disk drive unit. A disk drive unit can be replaced without powering down the system. Four disk drive units can be arranged in a four drive system to match the space geometry of the traditional half-high flexible disk drive used in a personal computer.
