    Abstract: A document reproduction machine, such as an electrostatic copier, has a copy station with a front reference edge for operator convenience. A reproduction station adjacent the copy station reverses the image such that the reference edge is at a rear or remote position from the operator. The duplicate copy is initially referenced to the rear reference edge. An aligner in a transfer station moves the duplicate copy to a front reference edge and into an exit station which may include a collator. In a minimal transport distance, documents of various lengths are automatically handled and aligned by the apparatus.

    Abstract: LE9-80-027 RIBBON CARTRIDGE WITH BACK CHECK A ribbon cartridge having a supply spool (3) and a take-up spool hub (27) to receive ribbon (1). A section (49) of a wire (32) extends from the mounting post (33), with its pointed end resting against the take-up hub (27). Movement in the take-up direction cause a sliding action. Attempted unwinding causes the end to dig into the take-up hub (27) so that the wire section (49) immediately prevents unwinding.

    Abstract: A SINGLE USE RIBBON CARTRIDGE WITH FRANGIBLE RESISTIVE ELEMENT FOR RESTRAINING THE TAKEUP SPOOL In ribbon cartridges which are utilized in cooperation with a spacially fixed driving member engageable with a takeup spool at its periphery to feed the ribbon, it is necessary for the takeup spool to translate away from the spacially fixed driving member as the spool accumulates ribbon and the consumed ribbon forms disks of increasing diameter. A frangible portion of the cartridge may be utilized in conjunction with its transverse engagement with an extending axle coaxial with the takeup spool to resist the movement of the takeup spool into the chamber of the cartridge except as is forced by the increasing diameter of the ribbon disk formed on the takeup spool. The frangible section of the cartridge may be formed either during molding operation or as an additional member being added during assembly and will break or tear as the axle of the takeup spool is forced away from the end of the cartridge by the increasing diameter of the ribbon disk and the force of a driving member engaging the ribbon periphery. The frangible web section of the cartridge is sufficiently weakened to prevent structural damage to the ribbon mechanism while at the same time providing sufficient resistance to insure engagement of the exterior of the ribbon disk with the driver.

    Abstract: A developer apparatus (29) for use in an electrostatic reproduction apparatus includes a large reservoir of toner (34, 44). The toner is located in a supply chamber (39) and is metered to a developer roller chamber (35) from which it is carried by a developer roller (31) past a doctor blade (36) to a photoconductor drum (19) for image development. A toner metering roller (41) rotates with the developer roller (31) to provide a continuous supply of toner from the supply chamber (39) to the developer chamber (35). Once an equilibrium level (65) is reached, the toner metering roller (41) acts to remove toner (34) from the developer chamber (35) to the supply chamber (39) to insure proper operation of the developer roller (31).

    Abstract: The paper feed mechanism disclosed has the capability of accepting two packs of sheet material or paper of two different sizes, such as letter and legal size, and selectively feeding sheets from one of the stacks in accordance with the condition to which the paper feed mechanism has been conditioned. The placing of the paper stacks on edge with the picker feed mechanism intermediate the stacks allows the feeding of the sheets by one picker or feed mechanism without the shifting of the paper packs from a first or second position. This also allows the feeding of the sheets without having to overcome gravity effects of the paper stack.
