    Abstract: When a request is received from a client device for the invocation of a web services operation, an off-ramp device coupled to an on-ramp device that provides an interface to web services verifies that the requested service is in a configuration file and then determines the selection scope of a desired service. Based on the selection scope of the desired service, the off-ramp device can determine whether to perform discovery and selection of a service implementation ("request" selection scope), retrieve a service implementation from a session level cache ("session" selection scope), or retrieve a service implementation from an application level cache ("application" selection scope). If a service implementation corresponding to the requested service does not exist in the session or application level cache, the discovery and selection operations may be performed to identify a service implementation to handle the request and the service implementation may be stored in an appropriate cache.

    Abstract: I@ An electronic handwriting facility comprises a central processing unit (10), an all points addressable display (12), and an electronic tablet (14) and stylus (16). The handwriting facility simulates writing with a pen or pencil and paper. An electronic document is generated by periodically sending to the central processing unit (10) the absolute location of the stylus (16) in relation to the tablet (14). Each point is mapped to the display coordinate system, and the points are stored in a point list. The handwriting facility is provided with a real-time rub-out erase feature wherein the handwriting facility is first set to the erase mode and then the points in the point list to be erased are identified. Real-time erasure is assured by using a grid overlaying the write area to limit the number of points searched to a small percentage of the total. The grid breaks the write area into a number of grid boxes. Only the grid boxes touched by the erase cursor are searched for erasure. When a point is inside the erase cursor, it is deleted from the point list. The user is provided with a menu from which to select an erase stylus size further adding to the flexibility of the erase feature.

    Abstract: Apparatus and method according to the present invention includes a wireless cursor position image device (220) and a control base (250) for detecting direction and velocity of motion of the device to calculate relative cursor motion on a display system. The image device includes a light sensing detector (224), a demodulator for removing a reference signal from the detected light, and a transducer (230) driven by the reference signal from the demodulator for transmitting a low frequency signal to the control base (250). The control base includes a light emitter transducer (252) for transmitting a modulated light signal to the image device (220), a reference signal generator, two or more low frequency detectors (254, 256) for detecting signals transmitted by the image device transducer (230), means for comparing the outputs from the detectors, and means for generating cursor control signals from the compared detector output signals.
