Abstract: 1474940 Feeding and ordering sheets INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 18 Nov 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 49782/74 Heading B8R Sheets advanced from a bin 10 are arrested when their leading edges strike a sensor 69 and further advancement is commenced a set period of time after the start of the sheet advance cycle. Sheet stacking: The apparatus serves a photocopying machine and sheets advanced from the bin by friction rollers 50 are returned to the bin after imaging on one side by a pivotable device 40 which projects the sheets beneath guide 26 and retard roller 23. The sheets are arrested by a backstop 17 angled to skew the sheet relative to its direction of advance. Rebound from the back stop is prevented by the roller 23. A feeler 29 detects when sheets are present in the bin. Device 40 may be moved to a position where it directs a sheet out of the apparatus. Sheet separating: The separator rollers 50 are carried on arms 51 which permit the rollers to be withdrawn from the pile when sheets are being stacked therein. Simultaneously with the commencement of feed action of the rollers 50 a timing wheel is started. Arrival of the forwarded sheet at sensor 69 disables the separator rollers 50 and a forwarding roller 71 which co-operates with a friction pad 72. After a set period the timing wheel re-starts the rollers to forward the sheet to rollers 78 and 79. Any additionally-fed sheets are held back by the pad 72. Subsequently the rollers 50 and 71 are again stopped until the commencement of a fresh feed cycle. Sheet forwarding The sheets are fed between guides 88 and 89 by skewed rollers 84 which align them against guide 18. The arrival of the leading edge at a sensor 90 within a set time from its release from the sensor 69 confirms correct feed.
