Abstract: 974,968. Parametric amplifiers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 1, 1960 [Dec. 23, 1959], No. 41279/60. Heading H3B. In a parametric amplifier, a signal of frequency f is transmitted over a line section including conductors 1, 2, and a non-linear dielectric 3 and a pumping voltage of frequency 2f is connected in the same phase to different points along the line section. Arcuate line conductors 1, 2 are connected to the pump by conductors 9, 10 having the shape of a segment of a circle. A voltage pump 14, Fig. 4, may be connected to closely spaced points on a straight line section 13 over connections, all having the same transmission time. A separate oscillator 15, 16 &c., Fig. 5, may be used for each point. The dielectric material may be tri-glycene sulphate or barium titanate and the conductor may be sprayed, painted or orherwise deposited thereon. The device is preferably operated at the Curie temperature of the dielectric at which temperature, the non-linearly of the capacitance is very pronounced.
