    Abstract: A continuous jet stream of a ferrofluid ink is broken into individual drops by an asymmetrical perturbation force applied to the stream. The ink, as it exits from an orifice under pressure, is excited by an electromagnetic transducer energized with an asymmetrical excitation signal having a fundamental and higher harmonics. An asymmetrical excitation signal, such as a sawtooth, having a substantial second and/or third harmonics content which produce an excitation signal with different rise and fall times can form a stream of drops free of satellites. Asymmetry of magnetic field forces can be produced with single stage or multi-stage transducers located at spaced positions along the stream. Asymmetry can also be produced using an electromagnetic transducer having a non-uniform gap.

    Abstract: A line printer has a print head with plural nozzles arranged in a single row generally transverse to the direction of relative motion of the print head and a print medium. The nozzles are spaced plural dot positions from each other corresponding to a plural dot segment of a single dot matrix character stroke. When the row of nozzles is slanted relative to the direction of motion, drops from the nozzles are used to print stroke segments in plural character strokes simultaneously.

    Abstract: Method of recording with a stream of marking fluid drops in which a predetermined plurality of successively formed drops in a stream each have the same electrical charge induced therein so that, when subsequently subjected to an electrostatic field, all drops of one commonly charged plurality will impact a record member at approximately the same spot. Drop charges are induced therein by asynchronously applied charging signal levels, each having a duration which is a function of the drop formation frequency and equal to at least two drop periods.

    Abstract: A method for applying the sealing material onto the corner regions of the substrate to realize the liquid crystal cell with large display region. A protrude region 100 is formed on each of the side regions adjacent to a display region of a first substrate 20. A difference of level is formed at each boundary of the side region and the corner region on one surface of the first substrate 20 for providing the corner region with a height which is lower than a height of the side region. A sealing material 30 is applied on the side regions and the corner regions on the one surface of the first substrate 20 by a tool for dispensing the sealing material 30. When a second substrate 10 is positioned on the applied sealing material 30 on one surface of the first substrate 20, a distance between the first substrate 20 and the second substrate 10 is decreased and the sealing material 30 applied on the first substrate 20 is collapsed.

    Abstract: The disclosure describes in detail one of the most serious problems in connection with maintaining the operating life of print hammers (11) at the high speeds of todays printers. Also described in detail is a structural arrangement to solve this problem without involving a major redesign of a print hammer module. A significant aspect of this solution is that a high speed print hammer is kept out of contact with structure that serves as a reservoir for the lubricant of the pivot pin (10).
