Abstract: In a low profile microcomputer, adapter cards are mounted horizontally in order to be able to use adapter cards designed for earlier, higher, machines. The cards are coupled to the microcomputer planar board by an extender card which extends vertically from the planar and has sockets extending horizontally when the card is in position. The adapter cards have edge connections which couple to these sockets. A removable bridge device is coupled between the top of the extender card and a vertical wall of the microcomputer to minimize horizontal movement of the extender card. For adapter cards which do not extend fully between the front and rear walls of the microcomputer, a channelled support arm, which fits over an end of a card, and is removably mounted on a vertical wall of the computer for slidable engagement with the card.

Abstract: A personal computer system unit has a planar card (10) upon which is mounted a processor card (10). The processor has mounted thereon those components, except for system memory, which are most likely to be replaced for a system upgrade. The processor card (10) has a printed circuit board with printed circuits thereon that terminate along one edge at contacts (176). Two aligned edge connectors (100,101) are mounted on the planar board (50). One connector (100) has a key (173) which engages a slot (169) on the edge (48) of the processor card (10) to align the many contacts (176) with contact arms (186). Two levers (210) are mounted on the card (10) and cooperate with frame elements (201) to insert, extract and latch the processor card (10). Each element (201) also has a guide to align the processor card (10) for insertion into the edge connectors (100,101).

Abstract: The latch (100) includes a catch (102) having a beveled edge (102A). An aperture (104) receives a downward force to release the catch from the lip (106A) of a housing (106). A stop (108) limits the downward movement of the latch. A retaining tab (110) traps the latch within the door pocket and limits the upward movement of the latch. The retaining tab includes a beveled surface (110A) to facilitate the insertion of the latch into the pocket. A cantilever spring (112) exerts an upward force on the latch when compressed. The latch, including all of its associated parts, can be plastic injection molded in a single-action mold. The door (200) includes a substantially parallelepiped pocket (202) having an opening at the top to receive the latch. The pocket includes a front aperture (202FA) in the upper, front surface (202F) of the pocket, and a rear aperture (202RA) in the lower, opposing rear surface (202R). When the latch is inserted into the pocket, the beveled retaining tab temporarily deforms the rear surface (202R) of the pocket and then snaps into place. When assembled, the latch aperture (104) is positioned in the front aperture (202FA) of the pocket, while the retaining tab (110) is positioned in the rear aperture (202RA) of the pocket. When closing the door, the beveled edge (102A) of the catch contacts the outer surface of the housing (106) and forces the latch down.
