Abstract:
Mechanical fastener (10) having parallel prongs (11) extending vertically from a horizontal planar member to secure layers of a floor covering (20, 21). When interposed between the floor covering layers (20, 21) the prongs (11) penetrate and anchor into a floor covering material. When a consumer desires to separate the layers (20, 21), and to replace or recycle one or all the layers of the floor covering, he can do so readily by pulling the layers (20, 21) apart, and then securing new layers together with the mechanical fastener (10).
Abstract:
A modified bitumen sheet material (12) and method for a protective moisture barrier, particularly for masonry surfaces (42). The sheet material has a bitumen layer (14) modified by the addition of a minor amount of a long-chain polybutadiene-isocyanate urethane polymer and optionally, a modifying amount of hydrocarbon oil to provide stable, non-flow and selected tackified surface properties to the bitumen layer (14). The sheet material (12) includes a releasable casting paper film (16) on one surface of the bitumen layer (14), to be removed prior to use, and a cross-linked polyethylene film (12) bonded to the other outer surface of the bitumen layer (14) as a handling or moisture barrier sheet. The sheet material (12) is prepared by casting the hot, melted bitumen as a layer (14) onto a casting paper sheet (16) and applying the outer film to the exposed bitumen surface to bond to the top surface.
Abstract:
A curable elastomer composition comprising an elastomer, an unsaturated carboxylic metal salt such as zinc diacrylate, an organic peroxide curing agent such as a ditertiary alkyl peroxide, and phenothiazine as a precure inhibitor. Suitable elastomers include nitrile rubber, EPDM, and EVA. The nitrile rubber is desirably hydrogenated. A method for curing the curable elastomer composition and the resulting cured elastomer compositions are encompassed.
Abstract:
A fusion-bonded carpet system and method of manufacture which method includes providing as all or a portion of the wear face surface cut yarn material in rope form prepared in rope bundles and implanting one or both ends of the rope bundle in an adhesive layer on a backing sheet to provide one or two I-bond, fusion-bonded carpet materials having a selected pattern on the wear face surface. The fusion-bonded carpet has a wear face surface composed of all or part of a yarn material in rope bundle form, for example, of a multicolored random or selected pattern. The carpet material may have a backing layer and form carpet tile.
Abstract:
A floor covering, such as a carpet or carpet tile, which comprises a primary backing sheet having a fibrous face wear surface and back surface and first and second backing layers and with a low density, resilient, non-elastomeric, closed cell polymeric foam layer, such as a thermoset, cross-linked polyethylene foam layer, positioned between and bonded to the first and second backing layers, optionally with a secondary backing layer bonded to the secondary bitumen backing layer. A method of producing a floor covering, such as a carpet tile, which comprises providing a primary backing sheet having a fibrous face wear surface and a back surface and bonding a first bitumen backing layer onto the primary backing sheet, bonding a low density, thermoset, polymeric foam layer to the first bitumen backing layer through a glass tissue to protect the polymeric foam layer and stabilize the composite, and bonding a second bitumen backing layer onto the polymeric foam layer. The second bitumen layer being beyond to a non-woven base wets through a glass tissue to protect the subfloor and stabilize the composite.
Abstract:
A printable carpet material which carpet material comprises a fibrous face, a primary backing sheet and a backing layer comprising a bitumen backing composition containing a thermosetting amount of a hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene-diisocyanate urethane polymer to provide a heat stable carpet material subject to a wet steam printing process without substantial carpet material edge loss or distortion. A method of preparing a carpet material which is steam printable and which method comprises applying as a backing layer to a fibrous carpet material a bitumen backing composition containing a thermosetting amount of a hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene-diisocyanate urethane polymer which permits the carpet material so prepared to be subject to wet, steam printing processes without substantial carpet material edge loss or distortion.
Abstract:
A method to remove stubborn stains from carpets and textiles that includes the application of an ammonium salt in combination with an oxidant and a fluorinated alkyl sulfonic acid or its salt. A major advantage of the method is that the solution is strong enough to remove coffee and tea stains yet sufficiently mild that it does not damage the carpet.
