Abstract: The apparatus comprises a piston 1 movable by a rod 3 in a cylinder 2 which has at each end a pressure relief valve 5. Sleeves 12, which each comprise an annular groove 15 and an axial slot 13, are rotatable about the cylinder 2 to align the slot with one of a series of apertures 11. As the piston 2 is moved to the left (as shown) the air pressure builds up and is partly relieved by the valve 5. When the piston passes the aperture aligned with the slot 13 the air in front of the piston rushes via the bypass groove and slot to the rear of the piston. Two such units may be linked in tandem.

Abstract: Glyoxal in an aqueous solution is used in a fuel additive in order to reduce pollutants in the exhaust gases of gasoline and diesel engines. It is sufficient to add glyoxal in aqueous solution to gasoline in the dilution in the ratio of 1:1.000 to 1:1.2000 and higher in order to obtain a reduction of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in vehicles with catalytic converters at idle and at increased idle of almost 100%. Esterified aliphats and polyethylene glycol are added to emulsifiers and stabilizers. Additionally, glyoxal can be used in form of its acetals and hemiacetals with the resultant product being added to the fuel in combustion engines in order to reduce the pollutant emission and carbon particles/deposits.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of glyoxal in an aqueous solution or the acetals of said glyoxal in a mixture of ketone containing between 1 and 9 C atoms and an alcohol containing between 1 and 6 C atoms. The volumetric portions of ketone and alcohol are at least 0.5 to 5 times the quantity of glyoxal. Up to 10 vol. % of an additive of this type can be added to a mineral-oil fuel such as petrol, diesel or kerosene.

Abstract: Un método para reducir la emisión de contaminantes de carburantes de aceite mineral en motores de combustión interna, comprendiendo el método la etapa de: formar un aditivo para carburante que comprende una disolución acuosa de glioxal y emulsionantes y/o tensioactivos y/o agentes anticongelantes; añadir la disolución acuosa de glioxal a un carburante hidrocarbonado, o formar un aditivo para carburante que comprende un acetal y/o un hemiacetal de glioxal, estando el glioxal unido mediante acetalización con alcoholes y/o dioles y/o trioles en una fase acuosa; separar el producto resultante a partir de su fase acuosa, y después añadir el producto a un carburante hidrocarbonado en el que la relación del aditivo para carburante a carburante está entre 1:1.000 y 1:20.000, suministrándose o carburante al motor de combustión interna.
