Provided are a method and an apparatus for encoding images using template matching and a method and an apparatus for decoding images. The method for encoding the images can determine a template of an encoding target block and can determine a matching search target image for performing a matching search with the determined template among the recovered reference images. In addition, an optimum prediction block can be determined on the basis of the determined matching search target image and the template of the encoding target block.

Provided is an entropy decoding method. The entropy decoding method according to the present invention comprises the steps of: drawing context information about a symbol to be decoded using at least either context information about corresponding layer or context information about other layers; and performing entropy decoding on the symbol using the drawn context information. According to the present invention, image compression efficiency can be enhanced.

Disclosed are a video encoding/decoding method and device. The video encoding method may comprise the steps of: establishing an adaptive filter corresponding to the current image; comparing the adaptive filter established in this way with at least one existing adaptive filter contained in a filter list; establishing whether to add the adaptive filter established in the way described to the adaptive filter list, based on the results of the comparison; and encoding the current image by using an adaptive filter contained in the filter list. In this way, encoding efficiency can be improved.

The image encoder includes a dividing unit to divide a macro block into a plurality of sub-blocks, a unidirectional application determining unit to determine whether an identical prediction mode is applied to each of the plurality of sub-blocks, and a prediction mode determining unit to determine a prediction mode with respect to each of the plurality of sub-blocks based on a determined result of the unidirectional application determining unit.

Disclosed are a method for determining a color difference component quantization parameter and a device using the method. Method for decoding an image can comprise the steps of: decoding a color difference component quantization parameter offset on the basis of size information of a transform unit; and calculating a color difference component quantization parameter index on the basis of the decoded color difference component quantization parameter offset. Therefore, the present invention enables effective quantization by applying different color difference component quantization parameters according to the size of the transform unit when executing the quantization.

Disclosed is an entropy coding method using an index mapping table, and an apparatus using the method. An image-decoding method comprises: a step of mapping an inputted codeword to a code number with reference to an inverse codeword mapping table, and calculating the mapped code number in a table index; and a step of updating the inverse mapping table based on the accumulated number of occurrences of the code number, the number of sequential occurrences of the code number, neighbor block encoding/decoding information, and/or threshold value information for updating the inverse index mapping table. According to the present invention, an index mapping table is realigned based on a certain condition, thereby improving encoding/decoding efficiency.

The image-decoding method comprises the following steps: clipping a motion vector of a reference picture with a predetermined dynamic range so as to generate a clipped motion vector; storing the clipped motion vector in a buffer; deriving a motion vector of a block to be decoded using the motion vector stored in the buffer; and performing inter-prediction decoding using the motion vector of the block to be decoded.
