Abstract: A laundry treating apparatus includes a cabinet with first and second cabinet doors. A first washing apparatus (100) processes laundry that is placed through the first cabinet door (130) at the front. A second washing apparatus (200) processes laundry that is placed through the second cabinet door (216) at the top. The second washing apparatus (200) includes: a tub (220) that holds water and has an opening at a top that is accessible through the second opening (211) of the cabinet; a tub cover (225) that covers the top of the tub (220) and defines an inlet through which the tub (220) is accessible; a tub door (230) on the tub cover (225) that opens or closes the inlet of the tub cover (225) separately from the second cabinet door (216) opening or closing the second opening (211); a drum (240) inside the tub (220) configured to rotate about a vertical shaft; and a first sensor module that generates a signal based on the tub door (230) being open.
