Abstract:
An antenna for use in a mobile radio communication device includes a conductive helical or spiral coil portion extending along an axis and, galvanically coupled to the coil portion, a conductive capacitive top load portion, wherein the coil portion and the top load portion are mutually arranged to provide an electrically resonant structure in a frequency band of operation of the device, wherein the coil portion has a first part and a second part and at least part of the top load portion extends outside or alongside the second part but not the first part of the coil portion, wherein the resonant structure has a plurality of electrical resonances at frequencies in a frequency band of operation of the device, and the first and second parts of the coil portion contribute to one of the resonances and the first part of the coil portion and the second portion contribute to another of the resonances.
Abstract:
A wireless subscriber communication unit (200) comprises a transmitter (220) and/or receiver (210) coupled to an antenna arrangement for transmitting/receiving electromagnetic signals. The antenna arrangement comprises an internal antenna 330 located within the wireless communication unit, and an external antenna 202 located outside the unit, such that both the internal antenna and the external antenna co-operate on substantially the same electromagnetic signal. The provision of both an internal and an external antenna enables the wireless subscriber communication unit to function adequately should an antenna become disconnected, malfunction, or its performance suffer from impedance mismatching. The internal and external antennas are preferably configured to be orthogonal to each other, thereby providing the wireless subscriber unit with the ability to operate with a substantially circular or elliptical polarization. A second internal antenna 360 may be included to enhance the transmission/reception efficiency further.
Abstract:
A multi-frequency band antenna ( 100 ) includes a dual-pitch coil ( 120, 130 ), and a top insert ( 140 ), operably coupled to an antenna base ( 105 ). The multi-frequency band antenna ( 100 ) is configured to radiate electromagnetic signals at a lower frequency 230 ) of multi-frequencies using substantially the whole of the dual-pitch coil ( 120, 130 ); and at a higher frequency ( 240 ) of said multi-frequencies using a length of said antenna base ( 105, 110 ) and a portion of said dual-pitch coil ( 120 ). A first portion of the dual-pitch coil has a longer pitch than a second portion of the coil and the first portion has a first end attached to the antenna base and a second end attached to the second portion, and the second portion has an effective electrical length substantially equal to a wavelength (lambda) of radiation having a frequency corresponding to a frequency in the second band.
Abstract:
A wireless receiver (100) for receiving and demodulating a frequency modulated RF (radio frequency) signal by a direct conversion procedure, including channels (110, 112) for producing in-phase and quadrature components of a received RF signal, and a processor (123, 133) for periodically estimating an error in at least one of the in-phase and quadrature phase components and for producing a signal for adjustment of at least one of the in-phase and quadrature components to compensate for the detected error, wherein the processor is operable to apply alternatively each of a plurality of different procedures to estimate the error, the procedures including a first procedure which is applied when a signal quality value of the received RF signal is above a threshold value and a second procedure which is applied when a signal quality value of the RF received signal is not above the threshold value.
Abstract:
