Abstract:
A lubricating composition, method of making, and method of use are disclosed. The lubricant includes an esterified copolymer including a backbone that includes units derived from a vinyl aliphatic monomer and units derived from a carboxylic acid monomer, the carboxylic acid monomer comprising an α,β-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or derivative thereof. The lubricating composition also includes an oil of lubricating viscosity. The lubricating composition includes no more than 2.5 wt. % of dispersant for dispersing oxidation products, other than the esterified copolymer.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method of lubricating a mechanical device by supplying a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a compound having 2 to 20 hydroxy-carboxylic acid residues. The invention further relates to the use of the compound in a driveline device to provide at least one of antiwear performance, friction modification (particularly for enhancing fuel economy).
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and polymer with pendant groups. The invention further provides for a method of controlling viscosity index by supplying to an oil of lubricating viscosity the polymer with pendant groups.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel polymer with pendant groups. The invention further provides for a lubricating composition containing said polymer. The invention further provides a method and use of controlling viscosity index by supplying to an oil of lubricating viscosity the polymer with pendant groups.
Abstract:
In a block and tackle window balance, the balance shoe holds and upwardly biases the terminal connector in a mounted position. A biasing element of the shoe maintains the terminal connector in a pocket of the shoe during operation of the balance. The terminal connector is prevented from laterally exiting the pocket in the mounted position by a widened portion on the terminal connector and a locating surface extending from the shoe toward the pocket. Manually pressing down on the biasing element or the terminal connector itself to lower the terminal connector in the pocket until the widened portion clears the locating surface allows lateral removal of the terminal connector from the pocket. During operation of the balance, however, the terminal connector does not experience a sufficient downward force to overcome the upward bias such that the widened portion never clears the locating surface.
Abstract:
A bi-directional autonomous truck. The truck includes a drive-train including one or more drive wheels, the drive-train having drive characteristics that are substantially the same whether the drive wheels rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. The drive characteristics may consist of the ability to reach a maximum rotational speed of the drive wheels, but may include other characteristics, such as the ability to steer corresponding pairs of drive wheels that are situated at opposite ends of the truck. Preferably, the truck includes a dump bed that is adapted for dumping in either of two opposite directions.
Abstract:
The reaction product of a hydroxyaromatic compound, at least some of the units of which are hydrocarbyl-substituted, a carboxy-substituted aldehyde, and an aldehyde other than a carboxy-substituted aldehyde, provides an additive for lubricants as well as an intermediate for further reaction with amines, alcohols, or neutralization to form a salt.
Abstract:
A device and method for monitoring conditions associated with pavement deterioration are disclosed. Conditions such as voids or loss of support under a rigid pavement, moisture infiltration in asphalt concrete pavement, fine cracking in pavements, delamination of overlays, and aging of asphalt may be measured according to the present invention. These pavement conditions are detected by estimating Young's and shear moduli in the pavement, base, and subgrade from the following wave propagation measurements: Impact Echo; Impulse Response; Spectral Analysis of Surface Waves; Ultrasonic Surface Wave; and Ultrasonic Body Wave Velocity. The pavement response produced by high- and low-frequency pneumatic hammers on five accelerometers and three geophones is recorded. A computer controls data acquisition, instrument control, and interpretation; measurements and interpretations are reported in both screen and database formats.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising (a) at least 0.05 wt % of a non-aromatic metal carboxylate, wherein the metal carboxylate is derived from a branched carboxylic acid, and (b) an oil of lubricating viscosity. The invention further provides for the use of the lubricating composition for lubricating a limited slip differential.
