Abstract:
A defroster and a method for the installation of a defroster of the resistive type specifically designed to be installed on the rear window of a completely assembled motor vehicle, comprising heating conductors in the form of thin pre-glued strips of solid copper or copper alloy applied to the inside surface of the rear window in a first direction with two spaced apart connecting conductors in the traverse direction; apparatus designed for applying the various parallel heating conductors to the inside surface of the window; and a method for repairing pre-existing rear window defrosters comprising cleaning the area of the defect, applying a sufficient length of pre-glued solid copper or copper alloy overlapping the defective heating conductor securing the new strip in place and making electrical connections between the overlapping ends and the underlying heating conductor.
Abstract:
A motion sensor capable of detecting the direction of motion in three dimensions is disclosed. The motion sensor can be built into a printed circuit board allowing for simple and cost effective manufacturing. The motions sensor is designed to utilize a through hole in a printed circuit board, which is capped by on each side by housings creating a cavity where a spherical metal ball can move in three dimensions. This interior surface of the through hole and the housings have conductive element that when in contact with the spherical metal ball close a circuit creating an electrical signal indicative of direction.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a thin-film antenna device particularly well suited for use with remote vehicle starting systems. The antenna device includes an electrically conducting film printed on an insulating substrate that can be bonded to any suitable supporting surface, such as the windshield of a vehicle. The electrically conductive film is protected by an outer protective coating along its entire surface except at two areas that form contact pads for receiving the terminals of a signal processing unit such as a radio receiver, demodulator, filter and amplifier, among many others. The signal processing unit is mounted to the same surface to which the antenna device is secured by a releasable attachment system such as a hook and loop type fastener. In a typical installation, a patch of hook-type material is adhesively bonded to the supporting surface overlying the antenna device. The patch of hook-type material includes a pair of apertures registering with the contact pads of the antenna device. The signal processing unit includes a printed circuit board to which is bonded a patch of loop-type material. A pair of resilient three-dimensional contact elements project through the loop-type material patch such that when the two patches are mated the contact elements pass through the apertures of the hook-type material patch and engage the contact pads of the antenna device.
Abstract:
An improved hand-held flat conductor applying apparatus for applying to the receiving surface of a glass pane such as the rear window in a motor vehicle, a plurality of equidistant essentially straight lengths of pre-glued flat conductor for defining the heating lines of a rear window resistive defroster. The apparatus uses a confining guide edge of predetermined configuration for setting a datum or base line for the heating lines, a translation carrier mounted to the confining guide edge and confined thereto except for translation therealong, a rigid bar secured to the translation carrier through a suitable pivotable foot and locking means therefore, and a conductor laying head supported to the rigid bar and positioned at anyone of a plurality of predetermined points along the rigid bar. The translation carrier is mounted to the confining guide edge by means of two widely spaced apart pairs of rollers which are suitably offset to prevent binding of the translation carrier when moving along the guide edge, and the guide edge is configured so as to present a flat main body having a top edge, and a T-shaped flange extending along the top edge and adapted to receive, on either sides thereof, the carrier rollers. The conductor laying head is of simple construction using a single pressure roller in the region of a glass engaging crescent which is nearest the receiving surface of the glass pane, and the mounting means for the conductor laying head relative to the rigid bar is such as to prevent rotation of the head about the axis of the rigid bar.
