    Abstract: A surface cleaning apparatus having an airflow path; a suction motor positioned in the air flow path; an air treatment chamber provided in the air flow path; and a porous filter provided in the air treatment chamber and including an outlet passage from the air treatment chamber. An air impermeable impact wall in the air treatment chamber is opposed to an inlet into the air treatment chamber. At least a portion of the impact wall or a deflecting portion of a wall defining part of the front end of the air treatment chamber imparts a circular flow to air entering the air treatment chamber.

    Abstract: A reconfigurable surface cleaning apparatus includes a floor cleaning unit comprising a surface cleaning head, and a hand vacuum cleaner. The reconfigurable surface cleaning apparatus is operable in a floor cleaning mode in which the hand vacuum cleaner is mounted to a rigid wand of the floor cleaning unit and operated using an energy storage member of the hand vacuum cleaner, and also operable in an above floor cleaning mode in which the hand vacuum cleaner is disconnected from air flow with the floor cleaning unit and operated using the energy storage member. A cross-sectional area through the rigid wand is less than a cross-sectional area through an upstream portion of an airflow path of the hand vacuum cleaner. A velocity of air travelling through the wand in the floor cleaning mode is greater than a velocity of air flow through the upstream portion in the above floor cleaning mode.

    Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has two nested cyclonic stages. Various designs for the dirt collection chamber of the second cyclonic stage and the design of multiple second stage cyclone inlets, which may use directing members, are provided. A length of the second stage cyclone chamber may be shorter than a length of the first stage cyclone chamber. A screen may be positioned laterally outwardly from the second stage cyclone to define a passage positioned between an inner side of the screen and the outer wall of the second stage cyclone wherein the screen may extend axially at least about 70% of a length of the second stage cyclone chamber. Different designs for emptying first and second stage dirt collect ion chambers are also provided.

    Abstract: An evacuation station for a mobile floor cleaning robot comprises a housing having a perimeter extending around the housing and an air treatment assembly. In one embodiment, the air treatment assembly is moveable from an in use position in which the air treatment assembly is mounted to the housing and a removal position in which all of the air treatment assembly is positioned outwardly of the perimeter. In another embodiment, the air treatment assembly is provided on a first lateral housing end which is provided with a housing air inlet that is downstream of the air treatment assembly air outlet whereby the air treatment assembly air outlet faces the housing air inlet.

    Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has an air treatment member positioned in an air flow path through the hand vacuum cleaner. The air treatment member comprises an air treatment chamber and a dirt collection chamber exterior to the air treatment chamber. The air treatment member comprises a stationary portion and an openable portion, the openable portion comprises a portion of a sidewall of the air treatment chamber and the openable portion is moveably mounted by a mount between a closed position in which the air treatment chamber and the dirt collection chamber are closed and an open position in which the air treatment chamber and the dirt collection chamber are open. When the inlet conduit extends generally horizontally, the dirt collection chamber underlies the air treatment chamber.
