Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel and improved method describing combining of signals in a high-rate wireless communication system. SOLUTION: Reverse link busy bits are independently generated by each base station and indicative of whether the transmitting base station has reached a reverse link capacity limit. A remote station combines multipath components of the reverse link busy bits from each of the transmitting base stations in its Active Set and in response transmits a reverse link signal only when all of the reverse link busy bits indicate that the base stations in the remote stations Active Set have reverse link capacity. The remote station weights the reverse link busy signals in accordance with a signal strength of the base station transmitting the busy signal and determines whether to transmit based on the weighted sum of the busy signals. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for tracking signals in a wireless communication system. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a base station includes a rake antenna having a plurality of fingers. When any of the fingers is unlocked, the base station waits a predetermined time period and then adjusts a lock detecting filter 30. The adjustment is performed based on comparison of received signal energy to an adjusted energy threshold 38. The comparison may result in an increased energy level of the filter. In one embodiment, if a mobile station is in soft hand-off mode, the base station ignores the lock state of the fingers and transmits power control information based on the received signal energy. If the mobile station is not in soft hand-off mode, a predetermined power control pattern is applied for gradual power adjustment. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve use of a forward link by high rate packet data transmission and to decrease a transmission delay in a data communication system capable of variable rate transmission. SOLUTION: Data transmission on the forward link is time multiplexed and a base station transmits at the highest data rate supported by the forward link at each time slot to one mobile station. The data rate is determined by the largest C/I measurement of the forward link signals as measured at the mobile station. Upon determination of a data packet received in error, the mobile station transmits a NACK message back to the base station. The NACK message results in retransmission of the data packet received in error. The data packets can be transmitted out of sequence by the use of sequence number to identify each data unit within the data packets. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signaling system and method in a broadcast communication system.SOLUTION: A method and a system for signaling in a cellular telephone system providing broadcast services fully integrate the broadcast services with services provided by the cellular telephone system. The signaling method coordinates interaction between an access network and a subscriber station, and the subscriber station decodes the broadcast service, receives paging messages while receiving the broadcast service, and properly shifts between operation states, and other functions known to persons skilled in the art.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for secure data transmission in a mobile communication system.SOLUTION: There are provided a method and apparatus for secure transmissions. Each user is provided a registration key. A long-time updated broadcast key is encrypted using the registration key and provided periodically to a user. A short-time updated key is encrypted using the broadcast key and provided periodically to a user. Broadcasts are then encrypted using the short-time key, in which the user decrypts the broadcast message using the short-time key. One embodiment provides link layer content encryption. Another embodiment provides end-to-end encryption.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distributed infrastructure for wireless data communications. SOLUTION: A mobile user terminal 402 accesses a packet data network 450 through one or more points of a plurality of network access points (404-412). One or more control points (432-440) determine which access point or multiple points the user terminal is to access. Control may be retained in the current control point, or transferred to another control point, whenever it is convenient. There are a plurality of routers, each having an associated home agent (418-420) which determines which foreign agents need to be accessed on behalf of each user terminal. The foreign agents (422-430) forward packets received from a user terminal's home agent to the control point currently controlling communications with the user terminal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilization of a forward link, and to reduce a transmission delay caused by high rate packet transmission in a data communication system capable of variable rate transmission. SOLUTION: Data transmission on a forward link is time-multiplexed and a base station transmits data at the highest data rate supported by a forward link at each time slot to one mobile station. The data rate is determined by the largest C/I measurement of a forward link signal as measured at the mobile station. Upon the determination of a data packet which is erroneously received, a mobile station transmits a NACK message back to the base station. The NACK message results in the retransmission of the data packet which is erroneously received. The data packet can be transmitted to the outside of a sequence by the use of a sequence number to identify each data unit in the data packet. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid protocol for supporting communications with multiple networks. SOLUTION: Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to wireless communications. The systems and techniques involve monitoring a first network in accordance with a first air interface, and receiving a message from a second network through the first air interface, the second network being associated with a second air interface different from the first air interface. Various registration and related techniques are also discussed for maintaining connectivity with both networks as the wireless communications device moves through different geographic coverage regions.
