Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit- switched network and a packet-switched network. While communicating over the packet-switched network, the device negotiates a sleep interval that is longer than the ordinary interval available using the packet- switched network. In this manner, the device wakes less frequently and thereby conservers power. A buffering system is included so that data directed towards the device while it is asleep may be buffered for later delivery when the device awakens.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for event distribution and routing in peer-to-peer overlay networks. A method is provided for event distribution and routing in a peer-to-peer overlay network that comprises a plurality of nodes. The method includes identifying a plurality of buckets on the overlay network, wherein each bucket includes one or more nodes, respectively, identifying bucket groups, wherein each bucket group includes a selected number of buckets, respectively, distributing events based on the bucket groups, and updating a routing table based on the events. A node includes a transceiver and a processor coupled to the transceiver and configured to identify a plurality of buckets on the overlay network, wherein each bucket includes one or more nodes, respectively, identify bucket groups, wherein each bucket group includes a selected number of buckets, respectively, distribute events based on the bucket groups, and update a routing table based on the events.
Abstract:
A mobile device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network is disclosed. A dynamic anchoring mechanism is invoked when the mobile device determines that a circuit-switched call is to be handed over to a packet-switched network.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for determining the quality of a communication link transmitting a specified packet type are disclosed. The methodology includes configuring first packets, which share transmission characteristics with a specific packet type, such as a Voice over IP packet, such that the first packets experience similar communication link treatment as the specific packet type. The first packets are then transmitted over the communication link to a quality monitoring server located near a termination equipment of the particular communication link. Second packets, which are transmitted by the server in response to the first packets, are received and evaluated to determine the quality of the communication link based on characteristics of the second packets. Corresponding apparatus are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to an apparatus and method for encoder initialization and communications. The apparatus may include a database and an encoder module. The database may be configured to receive a plurality of parameters to be used for operation of the encoder module. The database may be further configured to store the plurality of parameters and to provide the plurality of parameters to the encoder module. The encoder module includes an encoder configured to be initialized based on the plurality of parameters from the database. When invoked, the encoder may rely on the database to initialize rather than performing measurements on the current signal that is to be encoded. In one aspect, the apparatus may be an access terminal that can seamlessly switch between different domains, different networks, different base stations, and different access points.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that is capable of accessing different types of networks such as a circuit-switched network and a packet-switched network. When supplementary services are invoked involving the device, a protocol is used that signals between the device and a central server that maintains the state information for the supplementary services. In this way, hand-over between the two different types of networks may occur without interrupting supplementary services.
Abstract:
The disclosure is directed to an access terminal, and method for selecting an access point for handing off the access terminal. The access terminal may include a processor. The processor may be configured to access a list access points and select one of the access points on the list based on the current traffic state of the access terminal.
