Abstract: A liquid crystal display (70) creates two viewing areas (view A and view B) which are visible from opposite sides of the display. The liquid crystal display comprises a first light layer (72), which reflects or emits light to create a display for a first view. The first layer (72) is adjacent to a first surface of a series of intervening liquid crystal display layers (74, 76, 80, 82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92) which perform additional functions to create the display for the first view and for a second view. The first light layer only partially covers the series of intervening liquid crystal display layers. The liquid crystal display also comprises a second light layer (94) adjacent to a second surface of the series of intervening liquid crystal display layers. The second light layer (94) is positioned so as to create a display for the second view which is not blocked by the first light layer (72). The second light layer (94) only partially covers the second surface of the series of intervening liquid crystal display layers so as not to block the display created for the first view.

In one embodiment, the electronic device is programmed in parallel with test code and a portion of the system code prior to board level testing. Abstract: The present invention includes a cellular pilot signal detector (210) or searcher for use in a cellular mobile communications unit. The signal detector uses a matched filter (212) to detect a pilot signal transmitted from a cellular base station. The matched filter includes a plurality of taps and a plurality of delays located between adjacent taps. The signal components of a received digital signal are held on the taps of the matched filter by the delays. The matched filter compares the signal components of the received signal to an expected or searched for digital pattern. The matched filter puts out a relatively large signal if the received digital signal matches the expected digital pattern. The matched filter can also be used in parallel with a correlator (216).

Abstract: The process and apparatus of the present invention limits the output power of a radiotelephone, operating in a cellular system in the preferred embodiment. This ensures the transmitted sidebands and synthesizer phase noise remains within a certain specification.
