The apparatus establishes a wireless communication link with a millimeter-wave base station (mmW-BS) based on a transmit beam from the mmW-BS, the transmit beam having a transmit beam direction, receives beamforming capability information indicating one of at least a digital, analog, or hybrid beamforming capability associated with the mmW-BS, and scans N transmit beams from the mmW-BS for each of M receive beam directions of the UE based on the beamforming capability information and the transmit beam associated with the wireless communication link.

Each set of reference symbols may include two (or more) beamformed signals. The network device may receive, based on the set of reference symbols, a measurement report from the UE. The measurement report may include a co-phasing indicator associated with the set of reference symbols. The network device may identify, based at least in part on the measurement report, an antenna port precoder configuration to use for communicating with the UE.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for coordinated transmissions in certain systems, such as millimeter wave (mmW) systems. A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) generally includes providing an indication to a plurality of base stations (BSs) of one or more selected beams for transmission by each of the plurality of BSs. The method includes determining one or more co-phase factors. The method includes receiving a coordinated transmission from the plurality of BSs based on the one or more selected beams and the one or more co-phase factors. A method by a BS generally includes receiving the indication from the UE of the one or more selected beam, determining one or more co-phase correction factors, and sending a coordinated transmission to the UE based, at least in part, on the one or more selected beam and the one or more co-phase correction factors.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE). A wireless communications system may improve UE discovery latency by dynamically selecting and switching beam forming codebooks at the millimeter wave base station and the wireless device. Selecting an optimal beam forming codebook may allow the wireless communication system to improve link margins between the base station without compromising resources. In some examples, a wireless device may determine whether the received signals from the millimeter wave base station satisfy established signal to noise (SNR) thresholds, and select an optimal beam codebook to establish communication. Additionally or alternately, the wireless device may further signal the selected beam codebook to the millimeter wave base station and direct the millimeter wave base station to adjust its codebook based on the selection.
