    Abstract: An example device for retrieving media data includes a memory configured to store media data; and one or more processors implemented in circuitry and configured to: retrieve at least a portion of a first segment of a representation of the media data, the at least portion of the first segment including data indicating that the first segment includes a missing section representing a period of time for which media data is not available but for which a segment timeline can be extended; retrieve media data of a second segment having a presentation time following the missing section; extend the segment timeline according to the data of the at least portion of the first segment; and output the media data of the second segment according to the extended segment timeline.
