Abstract: A method of broadcasting data in a wireless broadcast network, comprising multiplexing data for a wide-area transmission onto a first transmission span, the wide-area transmission being sent from a plurality of transmitters in the network; multiplexing data for a local transmission onto a second transmission span, wherein the multiplexing is onto frequency subbands pseudo-randomly selected from among all usable frequency subbands and the local transmission being sent from a subset of the plurality of transmitters; selecting the first and second transmission spans based on an amount of data to broadcast for the wide-area transmission and an amount of data to broadcast for the local transmission; and broadcasting the local and wide-area transmissions via a wireless link, wherein the data for the wide-area transmission and the data for the local transmission are time division multiplexed (TDM) at each base station, and wherein the first and second transmission spans are first and second time segments, respectively, of a frame of a predetermined time duration as well as a corresponding system.

Abstract: Techniques are provided to support successive interference cancellation (SIC) receiver processing with selection diversity whereby each of NT transmit antennas may be turned on or off. One symbol stream may be transmitted from each transmit antenna. A SIC receiver recovers the transmitted symbol streams in a specific order. Up to N T ! orderings are evaluated. For each ordering, N T post-detection SNRs are obtained for N T transmit antennas and used to determine N T data rates, where the data rate is zero if the post-detection SNR is worse than a minimum required SNR. An overall data rate is computed for each ordering based on the N T data rates. The ordering with the highest overall data rate is selected for use. Up to N T symbol streams arc processed at the data rates for the selected ordering and transmitted. The transmitted symbol streams are recovered in accordance with the selected ordering.

Abstract: Técnicas para soportar el procesamiento de los receptores de SIC (Succesive Interference Cancellation, cancelacion sucesiva de las interferencias) con diversidad de seleccion, pudiendo cada una de las NT antenas de transmision ser encendida o apagada. Una corriente de símbolos puede ser transmitida desde cada antena de transmision. Un receptor SIC recupera las corrientes de símbolos transmitidas en un orden específico. Se evaluan hasta NT! Ordenamientos. Para cada uno de los ordenamientos, se obtienen NT SNRs de post-deteccion para NT antenas de transmision y se los utiliza para determinar NT velocidades de los datos, siendo la velocidad de los datos igual a cero si el SNR de post-deteccion es peor que el SNR mínimo requerido. Se calcula una velocidad global de los datos para cada ordenamiento en base a las NT velocidades de datos. El ordenamiento con la mayor velocidad global de los datos es seleccionado para ser utilizado. Se procesan hasta NT corrientes de símbolos con las velocidades de los datos para el ordenamiento seleccionado y transmitido. Las corrientes de símbolos transmitidas son recuperadas de acuerdo con el ordenamiento seleccionado.
