    Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for transmitting a channel state information (CSI) report from a user equipment (UE). The CSI report may be a UE initiated CSI report or may be based on a downlink grant. The UE may determine to transmit the CSI report based on measurement using a physical downlink control channel (PDSCH) and/or a demodulation reference signal (DMRS). The UE may determine a reference resource for CSI feedback. The UE may calculate a channel quality indicator (CQI) based on the reference resource. The UE may transmit the CQI in the CSI report on an uplink resource.

    Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to user equipment (UE) -assisted beam broadening in a wireless communication system configured to employ beamforming. A UE may determine downlink channel characteristics by monitoring for, receiving, and measuring a suitable downlink reference signal. Based on the channel characteristics the UE may select a wide beam corresponding to a set of narrow beams. The UE may then transmit a report identifying the selected wide beam by indicating a direction of the selected wide beam and an angular width of the selected wide beam. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

    Abstract: Port selection codebook enhancements are disclosed for spatial and frequency domain density (FDD) reciprocity. A base station may generate and signal a channel state information (CSI) report configuration including configuration of multiple CSI-reference signal (CSI-RS) port groups, wherein each group includes one or more CSI-RS ports, and each group is associated with one or more codebook subset restrictions (CBSRs). Using the configured restrictions of the CBSRs, served user equipments (UEs) may determine linear combination coefficient feedback based on channel measurements of selected port groups and signals the feedback to the base station. Once the base station receives the feedback it may then determine a hybrid CSI-RS codebook using both the configured CSI-RS port groups and the linear combination coefficients. The base station may then transmit downlink data encoded with a precoding matrix selected from the codebook. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which beamforming may be configured at a user equipment (UE) for narrowband communications. The UE may be a narrowband UE that may provide an indication to a base station that the UE is capable of performing beamforming communication for a unicast channel transmission. Such an indication may be provided in response to the UE receiving a non-beamformed broadcast channel transmission from the base station via a first carrier. The base station may receive the indication and configure the UE with a beamformed narrowband communications scheme. Such a beamformed formed narrowband communications scheme may be used for narrowband downlink shared channel communications, narrowband downlink control channel communications, or combinations thereof. In some cases, beamformed communications may be configured on a different carrier than the first carrier. The base station and UE may then communicate using beamformed transmissions.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which sequence groups, and sequence hopping patterns may be used to distinguish concurrent non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmissions. A wireless device, such as a user equipment (UE), may identify, for a message, a first transmission opportunity from a plurality of transmission opportunities associated with grant-free uplink contention-based transmissions (e.g., NOMA transmissions); select a multiple access (MA) signature sequence from a group of MA signature sequences associated with the first transmission opportunity; identify a hopping pattern associated with the MA signature sequence; and transmit one or more redundancy versions of the message in one or more of the plurality of transmission opportunities comprising the first transmission opportunity according to the MA signature sequence and the hopping pattern.
