Abstract:
An enclosure 4 for electrical apparatus 6 has a sealable outlet 8 for partially evacuating the enclosure and a sealable inlet 9 for partially filling the enclosure with a liquid 7 having a vapour pressure at operating temperatures of the apparatus suitable to enhance electrical isolation of the electrical apparatus and suitable to provide convective cooling of the electrical apparatus. The vapour preferably provides a voltage hold-off sufficiently high for operating voltages of the electrical apparatus and has a relative permittivity sufficiently low to prevent stray capacitance in the electrical apparatus above a predetermined limit.
Abstract:
The invention relates to systems and methods that improve distribution of fuel cartridges. The cartridges include compatibility information. A controller on the device validates the compatibility information before permitting fuel provision from the cartridge to the device. Invalid compatibility information, or absence of the compatibility information, then denies fuel flow to the device. This permits the device to validate that the cartridge and its contents are acceptable. This improves distribution by allowing the device or fuel cell manufacturer to implement cartridge selectivity by permitting cartridges from select manufacturers to provide fuel and denying cartridge of other manufacturers from providing fuel. Compatibility information stored in the cartridge memory may also be encrypted to prevent open access to the compatibility information. The compatibility information also improves fuel refilling distribution. In this case, the compatibility information permits a cartridge or device manufacturer to selectively control who can refill their cartridges.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method to analyze the condition of a functional fluid comprising: (1) obtaining a sample of the used fluid; (2) placing the sample of the fluid to a test medium; (3) reacting the fluid with an indicator in the test medium; (4) analyzing visually the results of the reactor resulting in the determination of the condition of the fluid. Further an apparatus for analyzing functional fluids is disclosed in the form of a test medium consisting of an absorbent or nonabsorbent material which has been treated with a chemical indicator, marker substance or a developer or detector reagent upon which a sample of the fluid to be tested is placed. The components in the treated test medium react with components in the test fluid providing a visual indication, for example a color change, to judge the condition, the presence of a marker substance or another parameter of the fluid. The functional fluid may be a lubricant, fuel or other functional fluid of innumerable sources, including internal combustion engines, turbines, transmissions, differentials, pumps, metalworking operations, cooling systems, etc, and be either organic solvent or aqueous based.
Abstract:
A measuring system is disclosed which detects and measures the volume concentration and mass flow of the airborne conductive particles, such as carbon-absorptive chaff particles. The measuring system can be used to estimate the effective conductivity of the detected airborne conductive particles. Further, if particles are not airborne, but are lying on a surface they may be made to become airborne by the vacuum source of the present invention and then detected by the measuring system of the present invention.
Abstract:
A method of extracting significant phrases from one or more documents stored in a computer-readable medium. A sequence of words is read from the one or more documents and a score is determined for each word in the sequence based on the length of the word. The score for each word in the sequence is compared against a threshold score. The sequence of words is indicated to be a significant phrase if the number of words in the sequences that have a score greater than the threshold score equals or exceeds a predetermined number. A sentence containing the sequence of words is retrieved from the document, if the sequence of words is a significant phrase. An abstract of the document is searched to determine if the sentence has been previously included in the abstract. If not, the sentence is added to the abstract.

A vehicle mounted tire changing system is provided of the type having a hydraulic jack system connected to a vehicle for lifting a portion of the vehicle relative to the supporting terrain and a pneumatic system carried by the vehicle for connecting air operated tools. The vehicle mounted tire changing system comprises: a plurality of hydraulic jacks mounted to a vehicle in a substantially vertical orientation relative to the supporting terrain; a hydraulic power unit coupled in communication with the hydraulic jacks for providing a hydraulic fluid under pressure to actuate the hydraulic jacks; a hydraulic manifold having valve assemblies coupled in fluid communication between the jacks and the hydraulic power means; a control unit for selectively activating the valve assemblies; an air compressor electrically connected to a battery via a switch for selectively operating the air compressor; a pair of air hoses each having a first end in fluid communication with the air compressor and a second end carrying an air tool connector for operably connecting air operated tools thereto, the connectors are connected to opposite sides of the vehicle. The hydraulic jack having an outer cylinder for mounting to the vehicle, an inner rod having a distal end, the inner rod operable to be hydraulically extended from and retracted into the outer cylinder and a base connected to the distal end of the inner rod.

A transformer has a number of single turn primary windings 5 formed by printed circuit tracks on a flexible bendable sheet 3 which is wrapped around a core of the transformer. The primary windings are connected to output terminals 12 of an enclosure 1 of the transformer by another printed circuit board 8 having further conductive tracks on opposite sides thereof to form balanced transmission lines whose impedance is matched to the impedance of the primary windings.
Abstract:
A cooking oven is made with a flat base of refractory material and a dome of refractory material forming an enclosure in which solid fuel is burned while resting directly on the base and food is also cooked directly on the base. An opening is provided in the dome wall through which fuel and food can be separately inserted within the oven. Only a relatively small part of the dome is removed to form the opening, which extends only part way up the full height of the dome. A flue is located just outside the opening so that combustion products from the fuel pass generally horizontally through the enclosed space and out the opening and up the flue. A closure is provided to shut the opening to limit the escape of heat. The dome is made by casting hemispherical sectors of refractory material and assembling the sectors into a dome on the base. The sectors are formed with interlocking edges to help hold them together and the entire dome can be enclosed within an insulated chamber..
Abstract:
A fire hose coupling, such as a quarter-turn Storz-style coupling, comprises a substantially annular body having a first end connected to a fire hose and a second end having internal engagement lugs for connecting to lugs on another coupling. The coupling includes at least one locking lever movable between an unlocked position and a locked position, the lever locking the annular body of the coupling to the other coupling. The one or more locking levers comprise a light-reflecting surface to improve visibility of the lever. This facilitates assembly and disassembly of the couplings in conditions of poor visibility.
Abstract:
An inductive filter for a magnetron power supply lead comprises an electrically insulating tube; a power lead located partially within the electrically insulating tube, and coaxial therewith, for supplying power from a magnetron power supply to a magnetron, a first core of a first magnetic material and a second core of a second magnetic material coaxially located on the electrically insulating tube; an insulating disc of same external diameter as the first core and the second core and coaxially located on the electrically insulating tube between the first core and the second core. The inductive filter is arranged to filter noise of a first frequency band and noise of a second, different, frequency band different from being transmitted along the power lead and to absorb a predetermined transient voltage from being transmitted along the power lead.
